Al Roker Celebrates Grandparents With SESAME STREET’s Elmo

By Movieguide® Contributor

SESAME STREET star Elmo just dropped by the TODAY show to share his favorite things about grandparents with new grandpa Al Roker.

“My favorite 3 year old monster, @elmo tells me why #grandparents are the best and says hi to my granddaughter, Sky,” Roker captioned a video of the visit.

He shared photos of his granddaughter Sky as Elmo congratulated him on the “wonderful” news that he is now a grandfather.

The TODAY anchor asked, “What’s the best thing about grandparents? What do you love about your grandparents?”

Elmo shared that he loves his grandparents “very much,” adding, “They’re very kind and friendly, and if Elmo’s having a bad day, they help calm Elmo down.”

Sky was born earlier this summer and is the daughter of Roker’s daughter Courtney and her husband Wesley.

“It is magical, it really is,” Roker said of becoming a grandparent. “The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be ‘this thing’ and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect.”

Roker posts a lot of pictures of himself spending time with Sky. In one post, the TODAY star called his granddaughter the “best birthday present.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Courtney’s pregnancy announcement:

Al Roker is going to be a grandpa!

The TODAY show star’s daughter, Courtney, recently took to Instagram to announce her pregnancy. She shared a video of herself and husband Wesley Laga, set to Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.”

“A new adventure is about to begin,” she captioned the video, which featured family photos and videos, as well as an ultrasound of the baby.

“I think in honor of my dad I’m going to try to go for Pop-Pop,” Roker said of what he hopes his new grandchild will call him.
