Al Roker Celebrates Great Health on 70th Birthday
By Movieguide® Contributor
Al Roker, co-host of the TODAY Show, has a lot to celebrate for his 70th birthday.
Since his health issues in 2022, Roker has not taken his life for granted. He has focused on his mental, physical and emotional wellbeing since then.
“When you have a health issue, whether it’s you or a loved one, you realize you can’t take anything for granted,” Roker told E! News in an exclusive interview. “So it does focus you — kind of a laser focus on your health and your family’s health and everybody around you — but you appreciate every day a little bit more.”
While he’s much more health conscious, he still enjoys life’s pleasures.
“I don’t trust people who don’t eat pie,” he said laughing. “But that said, I modified things a little bit. It’s everything in moderation.”
Movieguide® reported on Roker’s health last December:
Roughly one year after his hospitalization for blood clots and internal bleeding, TODAY’s Al Roker celebrated his impressive recovery.
“A year ago, I was struggling after getting home from the hospital,” Roker shared on Instagram. “This week marks 60 days in a row of 10k+ steps a day. Been a long road with a lot of folks helping me along the way.”
On the post, he shared a screenshot of the number of steps he was taking daily in December of 2022 where he struggled to top 3,000 and a screenshot of this year’s December steps with up to 15,000 a day.
Roker celebrated his birthday in style and shared photos with his co-workers, family and even the mayor of New York City.
“Talk about a #70thbirthday#celebration,” he wrote in one post. “Gathered together on our @todayshow plaza, @danielboulud@marcuscooks @mattabdoo @sweeney.timmand @grandbabycakes making their versions of my favorite dishes and drinks. ‘Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son’-Dean Vernon Wormer. Today, that sounds good to me.”
In another post, Roker celebrated with his family, saying, “Winding down my #70thbirthday at one of our favorite restaurants here in #nyc@thepolobar with family and the #hostwiththemost @nellcan.”
But the best part came when Roker received a key to New York City from Mayor Eric Adams.
“Gotta tell you. This kid from Queens never thought he’d be getting the key to #nyc from @nycmayor,” Roker captioned the post. “It was hard not to start crying thinking g about how proud my parents would have been to see this. And thanks to @photonate for catching this moment.”
