God Answered This QB’s Prayers, and He Had So Much Fun

Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton stepped in for the second-year quarterback Bryce Young on Sunday to help lead the Carolina Panthers to their first win of the season.

Dalton “completed 26 of 37 passes for 319 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His performance was the first 300-yard, three-touchdown game of the NFL season,” Sports Spectrum reported.

Getting the opportunity to start again was an answer to prayer.

“I definitely wasn’t expecting it,” he said. “But when [coach Dave Canles] told me, it’s one of those deals like, well this is one of those things I’ve been praying for, another opportunity. And I’ve got it now.”

During his post-game press conference, he reiterated one thing: how much fun he and his team had.

“I got a chance to just be me and play and to be out there how I normally am. I’m normally pretty calm; I’m normally relaxed,” he told the media. “You know, guys were having fun. I was trying to make sure the guys were having fun because you put in a ton of work for this thing, and for you to get out there, it’s like now you get time to just go and enjoy the work that you put in. And it makes it nice when the day goes like it did today.

“Talk about the team had fun, I probably had the most fun,” Dalton exclaimed. “And that’s the thing, I wasn’t gonna let anybody else have more fun than I was out there. So playing this game, it’s like I said, we put in the work, and when you get an opportunity to be out there on Sundays and get a chance to compete, yeah it’s a ton of fun. And that was the fun part about it is we didn’t just put one drive together, we were able to do it the whole game, play complementary football, and guys were having a ton of fun, and that’s how it should be.”

Dalton’s source of joy and fun comes from his faith.

“People are always watching you, looking to see what you’re doing,” he told Jason Romano on the Sports Spectrum Podcast. “Salvation is freely given; it’s by nothing that we’ve done but everything that Jesus has done for us…I’m not perfect. Nobody’s perfect except Jesus.”
