Ben Fuller knows the restorative power of God firsthand, not only in his own life but also in his relationship with his dad.
“I have to believe that there are people in the crowd that have something that they’re going through, and it could be cocaine, alcohol, porn, whatever it is,” he told K-LOVE. “And it’s just like, ‘Hey, here I am. Jesus has changed my life.’ I don’t understand it all, I don’t really know if I need to understand it all, but I know that I called on His name and I’ve been changed.”
When Fuller accepted Jesus, his whole life turned around, but he still had a rocky relationship with his father.
“I couldn’t understand my dad right growing up. We had a tough relationship. He his dad never said, ‘I love you,’ so therefore he didn’t share that. It was just this generational thing passed down, right?” he explained.
“And all of a sudden, I’ve accepted Christ, everything’s changed. I realize I have a father in heaven who loves me so very much, and I can write about it and share. So even though I couldn’t understand my father here on earth…I now knew that I had a father in heaven who loved me so very much.”
Fuller’s song “Proud” details his rough and emotionally abusive relationship with his father. But during a concert, he performed the song, and his dad was in the crowd.
“Right as I finished the song, I was getting ready to take my guitar off and Holy Spirit said, ‘Go hug him.’ And he stood up first and he walked down the aisle, and he met me halfway and he gave me a hug and he said, ‘I love you.’”
Fuller’s lyrics in the song Proud read:
He never hit me with his fists
But he did some damage with his words
My old man didn’t know no better
Just passed down what he thought worked
I tried and tried to break his pride
And be the apple of his eye
And maybe I was loved
But he never let me know I was
Today, Fuller spends his life sharing the gospel on stage. Recently he performed at the Grand Ole Opry with Carrie Underwood.

In a post to Instagram, he said, “It was always a thought, but never my plan to get to play the @opry but I can’t help but think now, that it was always His. And Lord I believe that somebody’s prayin’ for me.”
Fuller performed his song “If I Got Jesus” in a lineup with Underwood, Ricky Skaggs, Bill Anderson, Henry Cho, Don Schlitz and 49 Winchester.
Fuller’s story reminds us that God doesn’t just save us; He restores every area of our lives in His timing and His ways.
