Christian artist Brandon Lake recently shared some words of encouragement he gave members of the Professional Bull Riders circuit.
“Y’all, never in a million years did I think I would be doing cowboy church,” he joked in a video he posted to Instagram. “I’m just excited to be here to experience what God’s called y’all to do, which is crazy…so what I want to share is really, really simple: what do people get when they get you? Do they get your arrogance, your cockiness? Do they get your self-doubt? Or do they get a glimpse of Jesus?”
Lake explained that the riders “might be the closest thing, the realest thing to Jesus that these people might get,” so it’s important to ask questions like, “Who are you representing? How are you representing?”

“It’s not just the ride…it is who you’re representing in the room, backstage and in front of however many thousands of people,” he said.
The singer continued, “For me, the ride would be the song. I want to be known as a man that’s so much more than the song. My songs are going to fade. But the man that you are, your character — your character is going to far outlast the craft.”
Lake has been bringing his message of faith through music around the country. Recently, he performed hit single “Hard Fought Hallelujah” on GOOD MORNING AMERICA.
“I’m just trying to chase one song after the other and point people to a hope that’s higher and point them to Jesus,” he said on the show, adding that he asked country artist Jelly Roll to collaborate on the track because he “just knew that he would probably identify with this, these lyrics…because he has worn his faith on his sleeve.”
Lake added, “I’m so proud of him that he’s a man of faith, but he’s like, ‘Yo, I don’t have it all together.’ And that’s what this song is about. It’s just still singing out of a ‘hallelujah’ even when you don’t feel it.”
In an interview with American Songwriter, Lake shared, “I’ve just so much love for [Jelly Roll]. And getting to do this together in front of hundreds of thousands of people is just such an honor, knowing that it’s actually not just entertainment, it’s really helping people. That’s the message of this song, and he’s lived that out.”
Whether it’s performing onstage or speaking to others in quiet moments, Lake is living out his faith in every aspect of his life.
