Broncos’ Justin Simmons Leads Team as ‘Follower of Jesus’

NFL safety and team captain for the Denver Broncos, Justin Simmons, has helped lead his team in a triumphant comeback into playoff contentions.

“The 29-year-old mainstay in the Broncos’ secondary leads the entire NFL with 30 interceptions since his rookie season in in 2016, as he nabbed another one in Denver’s latest win, a 24-22 road victory against the Buffalo Bills on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. It marked his third pick in his last four games,” Sports Spectrum reported.

After the win against the Bills, Simmons told NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz, “Defensively, man, taking the ball away against that team is really hard to do.”

Not only is Simmons leading the Broncos defensively, but he’s also leading them with his faith as a follower of Jesus.

In May, Simmons told the Sports Spectrum Podcast, “Through [the 2022-23] season, I’ve learned more than any other how grateful and thankful I am for God’s provision in men that He’s specifically placed in my life that have helped me view things from a different perspective.”

“I felt like I missed the mark being the hands and feet on [those teams],” he said after last season. “And it’s really cool because it helped me realize through wise counsel and wisdom that it’s in those moments where Jesus can still be preached and His Word can still deliver.”

Simmons often uses his platform on the field and social media to profess his faith.

His X bio reads, “An imperfect and unworthy follower of Jesus, saved by grace. #TeamJesus.”

He wrote on Instagram, “Not playing for affirmation…playing FROM it. #TeamJesus”

Simmons also partnered with USAA for Veterans Day to find a way to “Go Beyond Thanks.”

Simmons wrote, “Veterans and the military community are one of our country’s greatest sources of pride and strength. I take inspiration from my father, Victor Simmons, every day due to his courage and service.”

“@USAA encourages all Americans this weekend to “Go Beyond Thanks” to honor veterans by going beyond simple gratitude and having real, meaningful conversation that makes a difference in the military community,” he continued.

Additionally, in an X post, Simmons shared Romans 8:11, which says, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
