Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has had a quiet start to the season thus far, but one of his “best games ever” came during a recent win over the San Fransisco 49ers.
Stroud had a season-high 318 passing yards, completing 30 total passes and scoring two touchdowns as the Texans upset the 49ers 26-15.
But the quarterback says his on-field success really has nothing to do with him.
“First, I just want to give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Stroud told NFL on FOX after the win. “Without Him, I’m nothing. I’m a broken, wretched, sinful man. He saved me time and time again. I just put my confidence in Him. Whenever I lack self-confidence, I have God-confidence.”

Stroud never shies away from declaring his faith in Jesus and uses the NFL platform God has given him to share the gospel.
Three weeks ago, he posted several photos of himself and teammates on the field.
“Grateful!” the quarterback captioned the photo before including three different Bible verses.
The first verse Stroud cited was Philippians 1:6 (CSB), which reads, “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
The second verse was Psalms 27:4 (CSB): “I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.”
Lastly, Stroud included Lamentations 3:22-24 (CSB): “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness! I say, ‘The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in him.'”
Stroud also uses his foundation as a way to share the love of Christ.
The CJ Stroud Foundation is a “non-profit organization servicing communities with the love of Christ through charity work.”
The foundation is on a mission to “inspire, uplift, and support communities in their times of need, ensuring they feel valued, appreciated, and cherished. We’re here to make a meaningful difference in the world, fostering a sense of belonging and hope, especially among our youth. The CJ Stroud Foundation is not just a charity; it’s a beacon of love and support, lighting the way for those who may have lost their sense of direction,” the website explains.
When it comes to his success, Stroud deflects all of the praise back to God, knowing that without Him, he wouldn’t have the platform he enjoys.
