Warner Bros. Discovery is holding an auction later this year where over 1,000 props from some of the best-known sci-fi, fantasy, action and superhero shows and movies will be available for bidding.
Captain America’s shield from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will be available, complete with battle scars from filming. A helmet worn by Robert Downey Jr. during CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will also be for sale. The shield is expected to reach $70,000, while the helmet could fetch as much as $40,000.
As for more retro items, a full Batman costume worn by Michael Keaton in BATMAN RETURNS will hit the auction and is expected to sell for $70,000. A model of The Robot from the 1960 sci-fi show LOST IN SPACE will also go on sale. The full-scale model is one of two ever made and is anticipated to go for up to $500,000.
The biggest item for sale, however, is an animatronic head of E.T. used to create the Steven Spielberg classic. The model has an impressive range of abilities, being able to open and close its nostrils and pulsate its veins while also moving its eyes, lips, eyebrows, forehead and tongue.
“The iconic movie prop head [was] made by the legendary Carlo Rambaldi and can be seen throughout Steven Spielberg’s movie,” Cover Media reported.
Given the character’s popularity, E.T.’s animatronic head could sell for as much as $1 million. Last November, a larger animatronic E.T. figure sold for $2.56 million.
The auction is organized by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies and will take place on Dec. 14-17 in Beverly Hills, California, and online.
“The ‘Ultimate Destination for Hollywood Memorabilia’ continues their exclusive joint collaboration which combines the rich legacies of the acclaimed ‘Auction House to the Stars’ and the industry revered programming brand to offer classic and contemporary movie fans and memorabilia collectors a unique and dynamic destination like no other,” Julien’s Auctions wrote.
“TCM and Julien’s Auctions continues to showcase some of the most iconic and fascinating objects ever used or worn by Hollywood’s biggest stars and legends in the greatest films and television series of all time in the companies’ co-branding extensions and integrations,” the auction house added.
