Grammy award-winning artist Carrie Underwood isn’t afraid of doing laundry and cleaning toilets; in fact, she prefers it over Hollywood’s glitz and glamor.
“This entertainment world that we live in is not reality,” Underwood told ABC’s On The Red Carpet. “Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking…and that’s a world I love.”
While Underwood works hard at her career, in her heart, she’s just a girl from Oklahoma whose focus is raising her two sons, Isaiah, 10, and Jake, 7, and embracing a quieter life.

“I have granny hobbies. I love to crochet, I love to do a little bird-watching,” she continued. “I have sourdough and I make my own kombucha. I love to grow hot peppers and make my own fermented hot sauce.”
In 2023, Underwood spoke about what a day in her life looks like when she’s not on the set of AMERICAN IDOL.
“The kids go to school. My husband [Mike Fisher] usually takes them. The second they leave I’ve got to vacuum,” the “Jesus, Take The Wheel” artist, who lives outside of Nashville, told TODAY. “I make their beds and kind of check their rooms and make sure there are not wet towels on the floor, stuff like that. Clean our room. Work out. Garden. I’m always cooking something or doing something like that. I kind of live in the kitchen, making bread or something. And then before you know it, they come home.”
“And we make dinner. We have so many meals together as a family,” Underwood added proudly. “It’s not a rule. It’s just what we do. And I love it. I like to cook and grow our food. I feel like that’s what I enjoy doing. I want them to remember that.”
Underwood continues to keep her humble beginnings a part of her, no matter where she is in life.
“Growing up on a farm with loving parents and our church family defined my values,” Underwood said, per Moveiguide®. “A small town with good people helped form me. I was rooted in something solid before I got to spread my wings.
“Mike and I do all we can to raise our two boys with values like the ones I grew up with in Checotah, [Oklahoma],” she continued. “Down-to-earth, church on Sundays, plenty of grass and trees and space outside for them to roam. At night, when we put the boys to bed, we pray out loud with them. Just talking to God, letting them know he hears their every word.”
It’s encouraging to see a celebrity like Underwood recognize that real life is about so much more than fame and accolades.
