Christian singer CeCe Winans believes that God used AMERICAN IDOL to bring the gospel message to the world.
“The Lord continues to blow my mind,” she said at a red carpet last month of God’s work through AMERICAN IDOL.
She continued, “The [AMERICAN IDOL] producers told us that because of the support and the views that we got last year, they created that whole Songs of Faith show. For the producers to come and tell you that, you know it’s only God.”
Last year, she performed “Goodness of God” alongside contestant Roman Collins on the hit show. She returned this spring for IDOL’s three-hour Easter episode titled “Songs of Faith” where she and Collins performed “Come Jesus Come.”
“I just believe every door that He’s opening is because He wants us to reach out outside the church where people really need Him,” Winans said. “He’s just allowing me to reach more people for His glory. So, I’m humbled by it, but I understand it’s an assignment.”
In a video of the IDOL performance posted to Instagram, fans expressed gratitude for the message of hope.
“YES CeCe🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾. You just make the family of faith so proud. Thank God for his light that shines in and through you🙏🏾” one person said. Another person added, “I’m holding on to a hope that won’t fade. Same @cecewinans ! You’re a beautiful example of faithful.”
For Winans, the performance marks a turning point in the music industry.

“I see walls coming down,” she said. “I’ve been in the industry for a long time, and I love what I’m seeing. And I know the views were the body of Christ saying: You know what? We’re behind CeCe. We see the Spirit of God moving, and we need one another.”
Winan’s reach for the gospel doesn’t stop at AMERICAN IDOL. The gospel singer recently topped the charts with a song in collaboration with TobyMac titled “Oh My Soul (Psalm 103).
“Come Jesus Come,” which released last year, also marked another chart-topping hit for the singer. Her fourth No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart, it drew “1.7 million official U.S. streams (up 54%) and sold 7,000 downloads (up 1,691%) April 18-24,” completing a “record” 58-week journey to the title, according to Billboard.
Whether praising God’s goodness from one of America’s biggest stages or on the radio, Winans continues to use her platform to spread the hope of Jesus.
