Meghna Balakumar and Kevin Konrad Hanna, the creators of the GILMORE GIRLS documentary, shared that one of their biggest surprises while filming the movie was how nice Chad Michael Murray was.

“I was surprised that Chad Michael Murray was smart and nice – only because Tristan is terrible, no other reason,” Hanna told PEOPLE, explaining where her surprise came from. “Chad is so smart and so insightful and so kind.”

“Tristan is like a monster, right? He was just this blunt object,” Hanna continued. “I think after seeing Chad Michael Murray’s interview, I think a lot more people are going to be team Tristan, which will surprise them, so that was my surprise.”

People who only know Murray from GILMORE GIRLS may also be surprised to find out that the actor is a very strong Christian who is now a staple on Great American Family. Murray is often open about his faith and has previously explained how he and his wife work to instill Christianity into their family’s life.

“We pray at every meal. That’s one of the foundations of teaching a good moral compass in our children,” Murray said in 2022. “Having the fear of God is vital because, to be honest, what do you have to lose if you have no fear of that. If you have no fear of God it would be chaos here.”

“We read the Bible, I start the day reading a chapter,” he continued. “We teach the kids about Jesus and who Jesus was and the story and we do church on Sundays.”

Murray has also shared how he personally approaches his faith, relying on the Lord to keep his path straight despite his success in and industry that glorifies debauchery.

“I get up every day and I put that spiritual armor on, read the Bible and do some devotionals and then get ready to go to work,” he said

“I feel stronger and safer walking onto my sets every day knowing that I have God with me every day. Jesus is there with me every day,” Murray concluded, “When you have that comfort that you just feel safe, you feel different, you feel the opportunity to handle more, your shoulders are bigger, you can carry more weight.”

It is encouraging to see how Murray’s faith will be shared with fans of GILMORE GIRLS through the upcoming documentary, especially given how bad his character is on the show – potentially coloring how fans view him in real life, like it did for Hanna.
