Chick-fil-A Set New Sales Record Last Year

Chick-fil-A Set New Sales Record Last Year

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian fast-food chain Chick-fil-A set a new record in sales last year.

In 2022, Chick-fil-A’s sales were $18.81 billion. In 2023, that number rose by 14.7% to $21.51 billion.

Nation’s Restaurant News reported, “The company has also continued to gain market share in an intensely competitive QSR chicken category. That 14.7% sales growth compares to its closest competitor, Popeyes, which grew sales in 2023 by just over 10%, to $5.51 billion. KFC finished 2023 with $5.17 billion, or 1.7% versus 2022. Notably, Chick-fil-A’s average check is slightly higher than its two biggest competitors, at $13.95, versus $12.65 at KFC, and $12.30 at Popeyes.”

While this has been a milestone year for the chain, will revenue continue to increase after Chick-fil-A’s latest announcement?

Chick-fil-A recently announced that they will no longer use antibiotic-free chicken.

“To maintain supply of the high-quality chicken you expect from us, Chick-fil-A will shift from No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) to No Antibiotics Important To Human Medicine (NAIHM) starting in the Spring of 2024,” the chain said.

“NAE means no antibiotics of any kind were used in raising the animal. NAIHM restricts the use of those antibiotics that are important to human medicine and commonly used to treat people, and allows use of animal antibiotics only if the animal and those around it were to become sick,” the statement continued.

USA Today reported that this switch comes a decade after the chain committed to selling only antibiotic-free chicken. By 2019, all Chick-fil-A restaurants were serving 100% antibiotic-free chicken,” the outlet said.

The fast food chain made the change because “the availability of high-quality chicken that meets our rigid standards became a concern.”

“This change enables us to not only ensure we can continue to serve high-quality chicken, but also chicken that still meets the expectations our customers count on us to deliver,” a spokesperson said.

Movieguide® previously reported on Chick-fil-A:

While many restaurant chains focus on profit and business growth, former Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy recently shared that the mission behind America’s favorite fast food chain is to “glorify God.”

“At Chick-fil-A, we are very grounded on our corporate purpose, to be a purpose-driven organization,” Cathy recently shared. “That purpose is defined in the statement that we’re here to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that’s entrusted to us and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

For Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s mission is about more than serving food or making money. It’s about treating customers well and reaching them at a deeper level.

“People are hungry to be treated with honor, dignity and respect. As delicious as our chicken bite sandwiches are, our fresh-squeezed lemonade and those hot waffle fries, people are in greater need of being restored and encouraged from an emotional standpoint,” he said.

“We want to impact people’s lives, we want to be a good steward of what we’ve been entrusted with.”
