Gad has been extremely excited about this project and previously shared that the years of wait are worth it, especially after the movie was delayed to 2027 after first being slated for a November 2026 release.

“Here’s what I can tell you. There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027. And that is because no one wants to rush this,” Gad said when the delay was announced.

“Everyone wants this to not just be a sequel or a money grab,” he added. “They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013 [in the first FROZEN movie].”

“We want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation,” Gad continued. “And I know that they are actively working on that. And I know that they have a story that they are very, very, very excited about. And beyond that, I think I’ll have Disney lawyers knocking down my door. But buckle up because I think they have something incredible in store.”

FROZEN has remained one of Disney’s most popular franchises since the first movie released in 2013. The second movie was the highest grossing animated movie to come out of Disney when it first released in 2019 and continued to hold that honor until it was dethroned by INSIDE OUT 2 in 2024.

While fans have been largely kept in the dark concerning the plot of FROZEN III, Disney released a concept art snapshot when the movie was revealed in 2024 that included Anna, Elsa and Olaf on horseback, with a shadow of a horned figure holding a spear looming behind them. Filmmaker Jennifer Lee also revealed that two movies are in the works to tackle the next step in the story.

“[The concept art] captures the scene of Anna and Elsa…everyone at Disney Animation is excited to be back in this world,” Lee said of the teaser. “Coming out of FROZEN II, we still have some questions. A lot of questions actually. Now, you see why we need two films to tell this story.”

Given the FROZEN franchise’s longstanding history of delivering entertaining, family-friendly stories, it is exciting that the third movie seems to be underway.
