Christian Rapper KB Talks Why Getting Jesus Wrong is ‘Dangerous’ in New Book
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian rapper Kevin “KB” Burgess joined GOOD MORNING AMERICAN to talk about his new book, “Dangerous Jesus: Why the Only Thing More Risky than Getting Jesus Right Is Getting Jesus Wrong.”
KB shared a photo of him on the Good Morning America set and wrote, “Lil K from the Southside ? Amazing time on @goodmorningamerica this am! Talked Dangerous Jesus and my new album HGA2 (drops next Friday ????). TUNE in around 1:30 today!!! God is gracious. #HGA2 #DangerousJesus.”
While the book’s title, “Dangerous Jesus,” may confuse some, KB revealed his reasoning for “Dangerous Jesus.”
“I think about dangerous in two terms. One side, when you think about a good athlete, somebody that is a beast on the field, we use the kind of language in reference to what they mean to the opposing team. So, if you are a dangerous athlete, then that means that you are a threat to the things that could cause us to lose. And when I think about Jesus, He is the apotheosis. He is the sum and substance of what it means to be dangerous in a positive sense in that he is a threat to all the things that would threaten us,” the rapper began.
Ultimately, KB believes that rethinking who Jesus is could bring revival to the world.
“So, for one, I am a living testimony that this is what God does. He brings people who are far from hope and life, and he brings them to a place of flourishing,” KB expressed. “And as Jesus says in Matthew 5, that Christians are designed to be salt, and we are supposed to be salt in this world.”
KB continued, “Salt in the ancient Near East meant the difference between famine and flourishing. It kept your food preserved. Salt also enhances. We are to be flavorful; we are to make things better and keep back that which destroys if we become the kind of people who are walking like Jesus. If we want to look like him, love like him, be merciful like him, to stand for the vulnerable like he did. That makes us salty in this world and it’s preserving and it’s flavorful and flourishing comes.”
The publisher’s description adds, “In ‘Dangerous Jesus,’ Kevin ‘KB’ Burgess—award-winning rapper, podcaster and international speaker—reintroduces us to the true Jesus, the one who poses a living threat to the status quo.”
“He’s a threat to our division. He’s a threat to our rebellion. He is the kind of dangerous that is so infused with power from on high that nothing stays the same when He walks into the room. His love is so strong, it’s intoxicating. His truth is so good, it sets people free,” it adds.
“We need to reconnect with this Jesus. We need to become a threat to the threats. We need to be dangerous. If you’re ready to meet the real Jesus…If you’re ready to join in the fight…If you want to make the church a genuine threat to evil once again…join KB in Dangerous Jesus and encounter the enemy-loving, world-changing, good-dangerous Savior,” the synopsis concluded.
Movieguide® recently reported on KB:
Sadie Robertson Huff caught up with Christian rapper KB on her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast to dive into his new book and hear his perspective on trusting God.
“I [wrote “Dangerous Jesus”] to put this portrait of the Jesus of the Bible in front of people, in hopes that if you could see him for his power, his wonder, his beauty, his glory,” the rapper said. “That there would be no more convincing; you would become obsessed with what you see because he’s too beautiful for there to be any other reaction.”
“I wrote this book, particularly thinking about…millennials, folks who are on the edge of sort of losing their faith or those who have already walked away or those who’ve not considered Jesus,” KB told Huff.
