Country singer and cookbook author Trisha Yearwood is sharing some special recipes and the stories behind them. The country star and wife of Garth Brooks shared more about her story and how her husband’s request inspired a unique new recipe.
“Garth walked into our kitchen one morning and said, ‘Hey, Miss Yearwood, could you make a lasagna for breakfast?’” she explained. “I tell my husband (yes, that Garth) he can call me Trisha; after all we’ve been married for almost 17 years, but if it’s not ‘Miss Yearwood’ it’s ‘the queen.’ Anyway, he’s doing the suggesting, but I know I’ll be doing the cooking.”
Garth insisted that he wasn’t looking for a breakfast casserole, but “real lasagna with noodles and breakfast things on the inside.”

Yearwood credits her mother Gwendolyn for her love of cooking. She explained her mother was “An elementary teacher by day and cake decorator on the side, she was an excellent cook. Mama and my sister, Beth, and I compiled some of our favorite recipes—hundreds handwritten on index cards, more scrawled on napkins—and shared the stories behind them in our first cookbook.”
Yearwood explained that for her, cooking isn’t just a joy, it’s a way of honoring her mother. Today, she’s written multiple cookbooks and completed 17 seasons of her cooking show “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.”
Recently, Yearwood took to Instagram to share another special food tradition. “A simple gift someone can give during the holidays. for me, it’s always something you make yourself,” she explained in the video. “I love to make food for people. So if I give them cheese straws, which is a thing that my mom used to make, that we love to make and share, I’ll make a little bag of cheese straws, and I’ll put them in something that that you keep, you know, so you might get them in a little tin that then you can use for something else.”
She added, “I love that or and also put the recipe included so if you want to make them yourself you know how.”
“Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” airs on Food Network. A logline for the series reads, “From traditional family meals to fun ugly-sweater parties, Trisha Yearwood does the holiday season right! First, a pull-apart Holiday Biscuit Wreath and red and green Holiday Deviled Eggs are showstoppers for a party. Then, a Grits and Greens Casserole speaks to a classic Yearwood Christmas, and Milk and Cookies Fudge is the perfect thank you to leave out for Santa!”
