Christian Singer Explains Why We Worship: ‘Natural Response’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Danny Gokey is reminding his followers that worship is a “natural response” to God’s glory.

“Some people look at worship as maybe just a chore. And if you look all over the scripture, people weren’t obligated to worship the Lord. They weren’t forced to worship God,” he said in a recent Instagram video. “They worship God as a natural response.”

Gokey continued, “You shouldn’t be forced to worship the Lord. You should ask the Lord to open the eyes of your heart to see His beauty. It is a natural response to want to worship the Lord.”

In the caption of the video, Gokey asked his followers, “How do you feel about worship? Does it feel like a chore? Maybe something you ‘have’ to do to make God happy?”

“HOWEVER, if you look at Scripture, people worshiped as a natural response to God’s remarkable nature and beauty! Isaiah 6 describes God’s glory filling the temple and the angels declaring ‘Holy, Holy, Holy!,’” he continued. “The incredible thing is, His wisdom, wonder, glory, goodness, beauty & brilliance are accessible to US here on earth, just like it is in heaven! And just like a husband who can’t help but be in awe of his wife, when we truly encounter God in those ways, we will *WANT* to worship Him, too!”

Gokey recently marked the release of his latest album, Sound of Heaven

“The phrase ‘Sound of Heaven,’ and each of the songs on this album, will mean different things to different people in different places of life, and I believe that each of these songs communicate the hopeful messages of heaven in ways that will speak to people — whatever their season of life,” Gokey said in a statement about the album. “My prayer is that each of these songs meets each person right where they are and helps them experience the ‘s of heaven’ in a fresh new way, in just the way they need it!”

In an interview with Baptist News Global, Gokey elaborated on the themes of Sound of Heaven

“Every nation, every tribe, every tongue” will be part of the sound of heaven, he explained. “Start to love culture now and start to love differences now, because in heaven we’re going to see everything. And it’s going to be incredible.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Gokey’s album:

Christian artist Danny Gokey is opening up about his new album Sound of Heaven and what he hopes his fans take away from it.

“This project was really unique. As it turns out, it’s the reflection of all the different sides of me,” he told Fox News host Shannon Bream. “It’s, you know, very celebratory but…it starts with a prayer, like ‘Lord, what do you want to write through me?’ Because God is the greatest songwriter of all time. He’s the greatest artist of all time. We’re His children, so I’m thinking, like, I’m going right to the source.”

Gokey explained how as he wrote the album, he noticed all of the songs sounded very different from each other.

“I knew that heaven was so diverse, and heaven is reflected with different sounds, so it all just came together,” he said.

The singer continued by reflecting on how beautiful diversity is and how we need to embrace the differences around us.

“Our thinking becomes small when we don’t embrace everything that’s around us. We become very small-minded, unfortunately. I just think when people get to heaven, they’re going to be shocked, you know, at how amazing and how diverse and how awesome [it is],” he told Bream.
