Danny Gokey’s been working on the perfect Christmas song for years.
“How do you make it nostalgic? Reverential? And dare I say…Mariah Carey?” he joked in an Instagram video last week.
“That was my task and that became my mission,” he continued. “I held onto the song for a couple years because the bridge…I couldn’t get it right. It just wouldn’t work.”
So he called up his pal Mitch Wong, who helped him perfect it.
“The bridge. It’s humble. It’s beautiful,” Gokey said. “No questions. No revisions.”

“This is it: ‘Mighty God and Prince of Peace,’” he sang. “Lord of lords and king of kings.”
The song is called “The Moment the Whole World Changed.”
“How do you TRULY capture the wonder-filled, life-changing impact of Christ’s birth??? 🤯 That’s why it took me so long to finish this song,” Gokey captioned the video. “And that’s why I’m so grateful to @mitchwongmusic for his divinely -inspired contribution that conveyed the sacred awe in such a powerful way! 🙌🙌🙌”
“My hope for this song is that you are moved by the thought of that first Christmas in the same way I was ✨Whether or not you think it’s the greatest Christmas song ever, I’m sure we can all agree that it is by far the greatest story EVER!!! 🎁💙” he said.
Gokey’s purpose for the song is to share the reason for Christmas — the miracle of Jesus’ birth.
“In this busy season, may you be reminded of the holy awe surrounding our Savior’s birth, finding moments to stop & worship, just like they did back then! 🙏🙌💙” the AMERICAN IDOL alum said on Instagram.
“This song is so special to me. When I was writing it, I just kept thinking about that night when Jesus was born—and it hit me all over again how absolutely world-changing that moment was,” he shared in a statement. “God became flesh. Heaven met earth. Everything we desperately need—love, redemption, healing, freedom—it all started right there in a manger.”
He stressed that the moment Jesus was born is when the world changed forever.
“My hope is that when you hear this song, especially in the craziness of the holiday season, you’ll pause and really feel the wonder of it all,” he said. “Like the shepherds did. Like the wise men did. Just stop and worship the One who changed everything—the moment the whole world changed.”
Gokey is taking his song to stage for his annual Celebrate Christmas Tour with Natalie Grant, which kicked off on Nov. 22 in New York.
