Dave Coulier Talks FULL HOUSE Cast Bond: ‘We’re Like a Family’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dave Coulier is taking “a trip back down memory lane” with his new FULL HOUSE podcast, sharing behind-the-scene stories about the hit show.
“I never watched FULL HOUSE,” Coulier admitted. “I really wanted to do an homage to the fans who have told us over the years how much they love FULL HOUSE and how much it meant to them, and in a lot of cases, how it not only shaped their childhood but improved their childhood. So I really wanted to give back by going over all of these episodes again and just kind of share that with the fans…it’s a trip back down memory lane for me because a lot of this stuff is brand new.”
His podcast, FULL HOUSE REWIND, will see Coulier watching the sitcom and giving his behind-the-scenes stories about making the show.
Coulier promised listeners “a variety show feel with recurring segments and bits which explore different family dynamics and relationships and how deeply the show impacted their own.”
The actor also discussed FULL HOUSE’s enduring popularity, crediting the cast’s real-life bond.
“I think people could feel that we really loved each other and still do. You can’t fake that. That’s really hard to manufacture,” Coulier explained. “We text on someone’s birthday, we say congratulations for things, we ask each other for help. It’s really a wonderful family. I don’t think any of us in the very beginning expected that to happen for the rest of our lives. So I keep in touch with everybody.”
He continued, “We’re like a family, you know? We bicker, we argue, we call people out on their stuff. We have problems with each other, but at the end of the day, we love each other and we kind work through it. I mean, we’ve been through pickups, cancellations, births, deaths, marriages, divorces—the stuff that any family goes through.”
A major blow to the FULL HOUSE family was the 2022 death of co-star Bob Saget.
“I met Bob when I was 18 years old,” Coulier wrote in an Instagram tribute to Saget. “I didn’t know then that two, struggling standup comics would end up being brothers forever. I wish I could lean on you right now through all these tears. I love you.”
The first episode of FULL HOUSE REWIND is dedicated to the late comedian.
New episodes of the podcast will premiere each Friday.
Movieguide® previously reported on Coulier’s friendship with Saget:
Dave Coulier remembered his FULL HOUSE co-star and friend, the late Bob Saget, in a recent interview.
“We made each other laugh,” Coulier shared. “And, you know, it was me, Bob and [the late] Garry Shandling, and Saget always had a three-way calling, so the three of us would be on the road, and Bob always would patch me and Garry in, and we were like three fifth graders.”
Coulier met Saget when he was just 18 years old and starting out as a young comic. He even ended up sleeping on Saget’s couch while they were filming and “became instant friends…”
“We laughed our tails off,” Coulier said. “We had such a good time that we still talk about the stories when we get together,” he said. “We are very close. We are a very — it is almost insane that a TV show becomes a real family. But we did.”
