Derek Hough and wife Hayley Erbert are expecting their first child, and Hough shared a sweet project he created to celebrate his baby on the way!
In a post to Instagram, Hough shared a clip of himself singing a mash-up of three Switchfoot songs.
“Here’s a little something from the heart: a medley of three of my favorite Switchfoot songs, ‘Dare You to Move,’ ‘This is Your Life,’ and ‘Meant to Be,'” he wrote in the caption.
Hough explained that the songs used to be ones of personal reflection, but now that he’s about to be a father, they hold a deeper meaning.
“I originally recorded this just for myself, kind of like a personal conversation in music form,” he explained. “Turning 40, just reflecting. Over time, these lyrics have shifted in meaning for me, they went from being words I used to ask myself to something I now imagine singing to my future child.”
The DANCING WITH THE STARS pro shared that he finally felt ready to share the special video.

“I never got around to making a full video, but I woke up today and thought, ‘Why not just share this raw clip?’ It’s a long one, so if you make it to the big finish at the end, you’ll get the full vibe. Hope you enjoy it and sending lots of love on this beautiful Sunday!”
The video sees Hough sing the songs as he walks through fields filled with yellow wildflowers.
People in the comment section complimented the performance.
“LOVE THIS…these songs take me back,” one fan said. Another person added, “You are so multi-talented! I look forward to seeing you expand your gift of music.”
In a July Instagram post, Hough and Erbert announced their exciting news in a joint Instagram post.
In an intimate video of the couple hugging, Erbert reveals ultrasound photos. The caption reads, “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small.”
Along with taking on fatherhood, Hough will also step into a new role as the host of EXTRA.
“I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of EXTRA,” he said in a statement. “I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter, and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.”
Erbert, meanwhile, is continuing to make an incredible recover after an unexpected brain bleed in December 2023 resulted in emergency surgery.
Hough said at the time, “Her recovery process has been nothing short of a miracle… Hayley is doing well… still has a ways to go.”
Congratulations to Hough and Erbert as they look forward to welcoming new life into the world.
