Robert Capron, better known as Rowley Jefferson in DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, wants to reenact his character’s special dance scene with his mom at his wedding.
In the scene from the movie, Rowley and his mom impress the crowd at the Mother-Son Sweetheart Dance with their moves.
“The woman who played my mom in the mother-son sweetheart dance is actually my mom, which is kind of crazy,” Capron told fans at South Texas Comic Con last month.
Capron’s mom, Kaye, wasn’t scheduled to be in the movie. The producers offered her the role one month before the movie was set to film.
“The producers just called my mom and they’re like, ‘Hey, do you want to just do it? You just have to do a goofy dance with your kid.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah!’ ” Robert Capron recalled. “So we learned that whole dance together. We did it together.”
“It’s one of those things, my mom always says that when I get married one day that we have to do that dance at my wedding,” the 26-year-old said. “I don’t remember it, so I’m gonna have to, like, re-rehearse everything.”
He added he finds it amusing that some film websites like IMDB list him as the “son of actress Kaye Capron.”
“The only trivia fact that I’ve had, it says ‘son of actress Kaye Capron,’ which…She would not have been in that movie if I hadn’t been in that movie, so I always thought it was really funny.”
In recent years, Robert Capron has starred in ANNABELLE HOOPER AND THE GHOSTS OF NANTUCKET, ELEMENTARY and several short films. His latest upcoming project is GROWING UP GORMAN, according to IMDB.
His co-star, Zachary Gordon, who played Greg Heffley in the DIARY OF A WIMPY KID movies, is also acting. He recently lent his voice for BATWHEELS and starred in MAX DAGAN, THE RESIDENT, and has voiced characters in several video games. He also started a career as a solo artist.
The gang, including their other co-star Grayson Russell who played Fregley, still keep in touch. Earlier this year, Gordon and Russell made a song together called “Atlantic City.” With Capron’s help, they gave all of the revenue from the song to help the California wildfires.
Ahead of the fires, Gordon told Russell, “Our friendship has been a wild ride over the past 15 years. Never would I have ever imagined we’d be making music together🤘”
It’s been over a decade since the first DIARY OF A WIMPY KID movie came out, but it’s clear memories and friendships made on set still impact the stars today.
