Disney+ Renews Original Series BIG SHOT for Second Season, John Stamos Returns as Head Coach

In a recent press release, Disney announced that their Disney+ original series, BIG SHOT, will return for another season with its head coach John Stamos.
A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the first season of the basketball streaming series reads:
BIG SHOT is a new family drama streaming on Disney+. MOVIEGUIDE® screened the first three episodes. Marvyn Korn, a successful but volatile college basketball coach, loses his job after accidentally hitting a referee. He ends up coaching a high school basketball team at a girls prep school in La Jolla, California. Marvyn learns to interact with the teenage female athletes and build their skills, attitude and confidence. Meanwhile, his teenage daughter comes to live with him, but he has trouble connecting with her at first.
Starring John Stamos, the first three episodes of BIG SHOT provide highly engaging, captivating, well-acted drama and humor. The scripts are well constructed and directed. They mix exciting sports drama with compelling and appealing relationships. The first three episodes have multiple moral themes about the proper training of teenagers for success and building stronger parent-child relationships. However, each episode has brief, relatively light foul language. Also, three lines in two episodes mention one teenage girl’s supposed crush on another girl. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children for the first three episodes of BIG SHOT.
According to Disney, production for the second season will begin in 2022.

“This show represents everything Disney is to me – family, inclusion, and unity. But at its core, @BigShotSeries is about guts and heart, and that is what Disney + demonstrated by giving us a second season. I am sending lots of love to the critics and fans that got up on their feet and cheered for us from the sidelines. I’m so grateful to continue to play Coach Korn, a man who learns to let go of pre-conceived judgements and learns from an incredible group of women, helping him to evolve and grow. And yet, he still has so much more to learn…thankfully he’ll get that chance in season two. #grateful,” John Stamos said.
One of the standout moments of Stamos’ performance on the show came in the season one finale.

In a sneak peek for the season finale posted on YouTube, Korn gives an inspirational speech about the importance of sacrifice and family as the Westbrook Sirens girls basketball team prepares for their big game against Carlsbad Prep.
Korn reveals the “Sacrifice Play” that will force the team’s best player to give up the ball when it matters most.
“Our number two will sacrifice it to the least expected player and she will make the shot,” Coach Korn tells the team in the clip. “You know, the one who puts in all the work and goes unnoticed. The one who always shows up and gets the job done. Kind of like what it means to be a parent, huh?”
Coach Korn adds that his role as a parent prepared him for his role as the Sirens’ head coach.
“It’s taken me a long time to figure out what it means to be a dad,” he explains. “At first, I thought it was about providing. Right? And it is, that’s part of it. And I thought, ‘No, you have to spend time with your kids. Spend time, that’s what’s important.’ And I said, ‘No, no. Discipline, that’s the most important thing.’ Discipline, setting boundaries, rules, punishments.
“Then it hit me: being a parent is about sacrifice,” he continued. “Sacrificing your own needs, your own desires for the good of the child. It’s a lifetime commitment. And at the end, you don’t win a trophy or get a banner or a shiny ring, no.”
Korn notes that a real “win” is “raising a child who is caring enough, smart enough, who was compassionate enough and who was loving enough to be a better echo of you. This is worth any sacrifice.”
