It’s “time to meet the Muppets” once again — THE MUPPET SHOW is getting a reboot, courtesy of Disney+.
“Disney+ has ordered a television event featuring special guest star Sabrina Carpenter to premiere in 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the classic original series,” Deadline reported.
Seth Rogen and partner Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures are set to produce the special. Carpenter will also serve as an executive producer.
An anonymous source told Variety, “The special could serve as a backdoor pilot that would help launch a new iteration of the iconic series.”

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and the rest of the gang are all set to appear, and veteran puppeteers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will return as well.
This is the latest move from Disney to figure out how to bring the Muppets back into the entertainment industry.
In 2023, MUPPETS MAYHEM debuted on the company’s streaming service, following the adventures of the Electric Mayhem Band, “on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album,” per an official description of the show. However, it was canceled shortly after its premiere, disappointing fans of the beloved puppets.
Earlier this summer, many Muppets fans protested the closure of Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3D, a show that was part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, the Muppets aren’t completely leaving the park.
Disney announced the characters would be implemented into the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster ride, letting parkgoers experience a race across town to get to an Electric Mayhem concert.
“With the help from our friends at Muppet Labs and a very fast limousine, we’ll take a twisting, turning, and screamingly fun road trip across Hollywood to reach the concert in time. The iconic scenery and landmarks of Tinseltown will feature a Muppet twist,” a description of the ride, published to Disney Parks Blog, shared. “And throughout the journey, you’ll hear the Electric Mayhem playing some of the most iconic, rockin’ hits in your ears to keep the music and adrenaline pumping. I’m sure G Force Records will release a concert setlist soon.”
Disney is still trying to find the perfect project to reintroduce the Muppets to a new audience. With Rogen and Carpenter on board for this new version of THE MUPPET SHOW, it’s sure to be a hit with Gen Zers!
