Season 8 of FBI is on the way — here’s everything we know about the upcoming episodes of the crime procedural.

“Times are changing. AI, technology, drones,” star Jeremy Sisto told Parade of Season 8. “We’ve covered some of that stuff this year, some threats that are evolving. That’s really the interesting part. How this office is going to change, how it has to change in order to keep up with the possible bad guys and the technology there. I’m always interested in the kind of research they’ve done in terms of that and how to bring that to an exciting story.”

He continued, “What I know will be there [are] these exciting stories, exciting twists. There’s a lot of different possible places that a threat can come from, sometimes less realistic than others.”

“Sometimes it’s more of a play on an idea, and sometimes it’s things you’ve seen in the news. It’s like using all that, all of those colors at your disposal for a writer to paint a season that is unpredictable,” Sisto said. “Sometimes there are episodes that are less serious, sometimes there are ideas that you really don’t want to think about for too long, and they all take into consideration the real-life potential of this agency.”

Executive producer and showrunner Mike Weiss spoke to TVLine about FBI Season 8, teasing, “There’s a big season-opening case.”

He continued, “The idea was to not tell the same story twice, but to see what the fallout of that type of paranoia looks like, so we see our agents wrestle with what it’s like to have people hidden in plain sight with really bad plans.”

There is one cast shake-up that has already been confirmed. Emily Alabi, who plays Dani Rhodes, will be wrapping up her character’s storyline this season and will not return for the already-announced Season 9. Newcomer Juliana Aidén Martinez is joining the cast for FBI’s eighth season, but it has not yet been announced who her character is.

However, the fate of Alana De La Garza, who plays Isobel, is still up in the air.

“You have to tune in to see,” De La Garza told TV Insider. “It is a legit cliffhanger. It was very exciting and very fun to play, unlike anything I’ve ever played before for sure. So that was fun.”

Season 8 of FBI premieres Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
