Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles retired from the NFL in August. Since then, he’s dedicated much of his time to being a dad and husband.

In a recent episode of the “Dadville” podcast, Foles talked about why he loves to watch his daughter play soccer.
“My daughter plays soccer, and my brothers-in-law — one was a basketball and football player, the other was basketball — so they coach soccer,” Foles began. “It’s so fun to watch them because they have the good drill work and stuff, and they do such an awesome job with them. But I’m also thinking that soccer’s just a fascinating sport. I love watching it because it was something I did not excel at. So, I actually enjoy watching things that I really don’t know much about. Because if I watch football, all of a sudden, I’m locking in, and I’m reading coverages and what’s this play, and I don’t with soccer.”
He continued, “I was just so focused on football, and I’m like, ‘This is a beautiful sport, and you have to be in amazing shape to do this sport.'”
As a dad, enjoying the things his kids enjoy, like soccer, is just part of living out God’s calling on his life.
“God tells us just to focus on today,” Foles said. “Don’t worry about tomorrow; just worry about today.”
That mindset, inspired by Matthew 6:34, inspired the mission behind his brand DAD SZN, which he started with NFL punter Pat O’Donnell.
Dad SZN is a brand built for dads.
“The DAD SZN brand aims to represent a community of dads who both cherish and stay real about the daily grind of raising children. While there is no perfect Dad, the most important aspect of fatherhood is being present in your child’s life and being the best version of yourself. No off-season, just Dad SZN,” a website description reads.
