Atlanta Falcons rookie running back Nathan Carter wants you to know two about the biggest things that “destroy” our relationship with God.
“Immorality and idolatry are two of the devil’s most common tactics to destroy our relationship with God,” Carter wrote in a post on Instagram. “Hundreds of thousands of men and women in the Old Testament died due to immorality and idolatry. God’s people worshipped false gods like Baal, leading to child sacrifice and sexual perversion.”
“We look at this and say, ‘Well, our culture isn’t like that,’ and yet we are blinded to the fact that because we have chosen to disobey God’s holy word, we are simply falling into the same vices and patterns that occurred in the past,” the running back continued. “Sexual immorality is worshipped. It’s a god that we have bowed down to. Pornography, prostitution and adultery are ‘normalized’ things. We have satanic websites where people can create a platform by prostituting themselves to gain a following and money, and we call that freedom. Yet, lives are being destroyed by addiction, contributing to high rates of suicide, depression, loneliness and anxiety.”

“Men and women, created in God’s image, are having surgeries to change their God-given gender,” he added. “Instead of addressing their dysphoria, we celebrate it, as if God made a mistake. We have a month dedicated to ‘Pride,’ which celebrates sin. Was it not pride that cast Satan out of heaven? Was it not pride that the Lord says He hates and opposes?”
Carter wrapped up his post with common examples of idolatry today and urged his followers to turn to God for the solution.
“While we may not eat food offered to idols, we often idolize our careers, sacrificing our families for it,” he said. “We chase after money, willing to lie, cheat or steal out of greed. We rally behind politicians and their policies, but rarely show the same zeal for God, for confronting sin in our lives, or for dedicating time to God’s word.”
“Don’t you see? Our world is hurting, desperately seeking a solution and a cure for all the pain that we feel on the inside,” Carter concluded. “The answer is not in what leads to our destruction, it’s in someone: Jesus Christ. The One who came, lived, died and rose again to free us from the sin of immorality and idolatry, offering us abundant life. Your cure, your solution, your life is found only in Christ.”
The athlete included Matthew 10:39, which reads, “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”
Our world is plagued with sin, especially sexual immorality and idolatry of all kinds. The only way to turn away from those things is to seek God with all of your heart, all of your soul and all of your mind.
