From animated children’s movies to faith-filled stories, family-friendly movies are dominating the box office right now!
For the weekend of February 20-22, animated movie GOAT secured the No. 1 spot, taking in over $58 million at the box office since its release on Feb. 13, per BoxOfficeMojo.
In GOAT, “a small goat with big dreams gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world,” according to an IMDb synopsis.
Movieguide® reviewed GOAT positively, commenting on the movie’s “strong moral worldview” and “redemptive aspects.”

NBA star Steph Curry had a hand in producing GOAT, which he says reflects his own “underdog” experiences.
“The idea of dreaming big, even when critics and doubters are around you — I still carry that mentality and want to prove myself every time I step on the court,” he told PEOPLE. “It’s not just for sports, it’s not just for basketball. It’s a mentality I think most people have found themselves in at one point or another — something we can all tap into.”
GOAT isn’t the only family-friendly movie performing well at the box office. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 debuted at No. 3, earning $8 million in its first weekend in theaters.
In I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2, “Bart Millard, lead singer of MercyMe, faces a personal crisis at the peak of his success. As his world unravels, he struggles with his beliefs and inner demons while seeking a path through adversity,” per IMDb.
“One of the things that I’m really happy about with the new movie, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2, is to be able to tell Tim Timmons’ story,” director Andrew Erwin said in a video shared on Instagram. “There’s something really special about his life, philosophy of gratitude. And he makes a statement every day with this, with a sharpie, writes an X on his wrist, and it’s just his way of marking another day that God woke him up, a day he wasn’t promised and being able to say, ‘I’m grateful for that, and thank you.’”
Erwin explained that something that “really illustrates the heart” of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2’s story is “that there’s fires in life. Sometimes you wonder where God is, but God’s in the fire with you, and it’s beautiful.”
GOAT and I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2’s major box office success is proof that audiences are looking for family-friendly movies at the theater!
