The FAST & FURIOUS franchise is expanding with four new series.
“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,” said FAST star Vin Diesel on the TONIGHT SHOW. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered.”
“And I had to wait till it was right…It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space…The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the FAST & FURIOUS universe,” he said.
Diesel will executive produce the project.
While Diesel said there will be four shows at Peacock, Variety confirms there is only one. The three other shows are said to be in development at Universal TV.
The show will stream on Peacock.
The plots haven’t been revealed, but it’s said they will honor the movies’ legacy. Across 25 years and 10 movies, the franchise has made over $7 billion worldwide. The 11th movie, FAST FOREVER, will come out in 2028.
A FAST & FURIOUS roller coaster is set to open at Universal Studios this summer, and another FAST ride is planned for development, Reuters reported.
Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier put together a list of possible series storylines the franchise could follow. A couple of their ideas are SUP WITH SUKI? and PRISON BREAK: CARTER VERONE.
“One of the coolest characters in FAST & FURIOUS history is Suki from 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS. Unfortunately, she never came back. So, what’s she been up to all these years? Let’s find out,” he said of the series idea.
As for PRISON BREAK, he said, “Many villains in the FAST & FURIOUS franchise have come back to wreak havoc on the Family. One who hasn’t is Carter Verone, the evil gangster from 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS, played by YELLOWSTONE’s Cole Hauser. We need a show following Carter in prison and a subsequent escape so he can come back into the franchise.”
It’s unclear how far along the Peacock series is, but Variety reported Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers and write the pilot. Sam Vincent via One Race will executive produce with Diesel. Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film will also executive produce with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan. Universal Television will produce.
It looks like FAST & FURIOUS fans have a lot to look forward to.
