FBI Franchise Announces New Spin-Off

By Movieguide® Contributor

A new spin-off to CBS’s hit procedural drama FBI is on its way.

Currently titled FBI: CIA, the drama will focus on FBI and CIA agents who work together to stop crime.

“A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City,” the logline reads.

Dick Wolf will write and executive produce alongside FBI: MOST WANTED showrunner David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman and David Chasteen. Peter Jankowski of Wolf Entertainment will also executive produce with Universal Television and CBS Studios producing, Variety reported.

Casting has yet to be announced, but Soaps speculates that CHICAGO P.D.’s Detective Hailey Upton — played by Tracy Spiridakos from Season 1 to 11 — could join the FBI franchise.

Although nothing has been decided yet, the series will likely be picked up for the 2025-2026 season.

If picked up, this will be the fourth installment in the FBI franchise. Other current shows include FBI, FBI: MOST WANTED and FBI: INTERNATIONAL.

FBI has been a top hit on CBS, being one of the top shows watched last year. All three current installments were renewed last year.

“The All-FBI Tuesday is a powerful force to be reckoned with on our primetime schedule,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, at the time. “Dick Wolf and the talent in front of and behind the camera on all three series continue to deliver top-notch storytelling, riveting action and intrigue that has captivated a dedicated fanbase steadily across multiple seasons. We are excited to see what next season holds for all these heroic characters.”
