Food Network Star Aarti Sequeira Reveals Moment She Met God

By Movieguide® Contributor

Food Network host Aarti Sequeira joined Candace Cameron Bure on her podcast to talk about how she came to faith in Jesus.

Sequeira grew up in Dubai, and instead of pursuing a career path her family expected, she turned to journalism.

“There are specific careers and vocations that we go after because they provide, right? So, doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer, all those things. And so, my parents were pretty open-minded when I said, ‘Well, I don’t really want to do any of those things,’” she explained.

She eventually moved to the United States to pursue journalism, and after being in a long-distance relationship, Sequeira married her husband, Brendan, and moved to Los Angeles.

Brendan was a Christian, and his faith drew Sequeira into a deeper relationship with God.

“I was brought up Catholic, but…it wasn’t alive for me. I didn’t really, I wouldn’t have said I followed Jesus with my whole heart,” she said.

“I was falling in love with this guy, Brendan. There was my relationship, and thank God he was a Christian, right? So, we would have these conversations, and I’d be like, ‘What do you mean you don’t worship Mary?’… and then I would say, ‘Well, what do you mean by grace?’” Sequeira added, reflecting on their relationship.

The two began attending church together in Los Angeles, and Sequeira opened up about the moment she encountered God.

“I closed my eyes and I just bowed my head, I remember. And I felt a presence walk down the aisle, come to me and come and stand in front of me. And I saw a set of eyes and they were amber and fiery, but loving at the same time…I was like [gasps], and he put his hands on my shoulders, one on each shoulder and looked me right in the eye. And he didn’t say anything, but it was just this sense of like, ‘I see you. I know you, I’m proud of you, I know everything. I know all the things, even the things you haven’t told Brendan. I know them all, and I love you anyway. And I’m proud of you anyway,’” she recalled.

Her life continued to change, and her journalism career was put on hold. But God was still guiding her steps.

“So then my husband got me a gift certificate to a cooking school in our neighborhood…I started recognizing that, ‘Hey, I think I have a talent here,” and this is something that people can do for a living,’” she remembered.

After realizing her talent, Sequeira competed on FOOD NETWORK STAR and won.

Since then, she’s hosted her own shows like “AARTI PARTY and the travel show, HIDDEN EATS…she also serves as judge on hit shows like GUY’S GROCERY GAMES, COOKS VS. CONS and CHRISTMAS COOKIE CHALLENGE.”

Her faith continues to impact her life and how she approaches working in the kitchen.

She recently released “Unwind: A Devotional Cookbook for the Harried and Hungry.”

“Have you ever felt empty after a full day? When there is still more to do, tasks to finish, and mouths to feed. How do you get it all done? You can reach for the One who will always sustain you. This devotional cookbook brings rest and peace to your meal preparation and the dinnertime rush,” a description of the book reads.

“So it’s really written for people who feel like me quite often, which is, you have a full day… And then you walk into the kitchen and even if you love to cook, you can feel like, ‘Here’s another thing that I have to do,’” Sequeira explained.

However, she decided to change her perspective.

“And so this time which had felt like something that was put upon me now became a time of healing, of restoration, of connection, of turning the very kitchen into a place of holiness because God would meet me in that. And I love this as a prototype for the rest of our life,” she added.

Movieguide® previously reported on Seqeira:

Cook and author Aarti Sequeira recently spoke about how she connects with God in the kitchen.

“I think sometimes we overlook the fact that God is a creator,” she said during a conversation on the “Revelation Wellness” podcast. “We are children of a maker, of an artist, and so we have that in us, and so it comes out in different ways.

Sequeira continued, “For me, it comes out in the kitchen. I think because all of us have to — or, get to — go in the kitchen…we then get to join in that act of creation.”
