Fox News announced it would be launching a Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at its annual Patriot Awards and would honor Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, as the first recipient.
“FOX Nation will present the ‘Charlie Kirk Legacy Award’ to a recipient who embodies Charlie’s mission and his spirit of free speech, faith, and family,” Fox News said in a release about the new award.
Kirk, who was killed in a targeted attack in September, was a conservative activist who worked to get young Americans interested in politics. He hosted debates on college campuses through his organization Turning Point USA. While he made his arguments for the conservative base from a place of logic, his beliefs were ultimately founded in his Christian faith – which he shared at every opportunity.

“Freedom is not sustainable if you remove religion,” Kirk said in 2022. “I’ll be even more specific, freedom is not sustainable if you remove Christianity. Eventually, it will implode. Eventually you will be ruled simply by your senses, you’ll be ruled simply by your consciousness.”
“I’m a big lover of reason,” he continued. “I think reason is a gift from the Lord. It says in Isaiah 1, ‘Let us reason together.’ But reason without revelation, reason without the belief in a transcendent order will go to where Jon Stewart Mill or where Darwin articulated, which is the survival of the fittest; a eugenicist type experiment and we as Christians should reject.”
Since the death of her husband, Erika has taken up his torch, vowing to keep his legacy alive. She was named the CEO of Turning Point following his death, while also continuing to be a model of Christianity for all to see while on the world stage.
“On the cross, our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.’ That man, that young man. I forgive him,” Erika said while speaking at her husband’s memorial.
“I forgive [Charlie’s killer] because it was what Christ did and is what Charlie would do,” she continued. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the Gospel is love, is always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”
The Charlie Kirk Memorial Award will become a part of Fox News’ annual Patriot Awards which looks to celebrate and honor America’s unsung heroes. The awards largely honor military members and first responders whose everyday sacrifices allow us to enjoy the freedoms that we often take for granted as Americans. This year’s Patriot Awards will air on Fox on Nov. 6.
