Taylor Kitsch has some advice for the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS reboot’s cast.

“Have fun, don’t worry about if it’s going to be big or not, just take absolute ownership of whatever character you’re given,” said Kitsch, who played Tim Riggins in the original series. “Take risks, and enjoy it because it’s not gonna last forever.”

The original show ran from 2006 to 2011 and had 76 episodes across five seasons, Deadline reported.

The reboot will continue to tell stories about a Texas small-town’s love of football on Peacock, PEOPLE said.

Kitsch told PEOPLE in January that he was only interested in returning if he had a minor role.

“If you wanted to put me as a visiting coach with two lines, I probably would do that, just for fun. I think that would be the most I would do, because I love the way we left it,” he explained.

Then on Aug. 4 he said, “I was asked to do it. Umm, yeah, I’m not going back. No.”

The new series will take place after a devastating hurricane hits the town. The high school football team and their coach make an “unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship.” The team becomes a symbol of hope for the town.

The show will feature an all-new, unnamed cast. The same creative team will return, though, including Jason Katims, Brian Grazer and director Peter Berg.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS star Connie Britton said a reboot with the original cast would be “sort of odd.”

“I don’t see them going back into that story, at least with this cast,” she said in 2021. “We know we’ve already had a movie, we already had this TV show, and then if they were to do it again with like, a whole different iteration of it, I don’t know. I would think that would be sort of odd.”

She said she hopes the new FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS stars will have a “sense of discovery there in terms of what they’re committing to and trying to accomplish.”

Berg’s cousin, H.G. “Buzz” Bisinger, wrote the book, Friday Night Lights, that inspired the movie and shows.

“To me, [the book] truly was representative of a moment in life that was very special,” the director said. “There’s a scene when a father looks at his kid and says, ‘Just don’t miss this.’ That kind of sums it up.”

The reboot was first announced last December. As of right now, there is no release date for the show.
