LEGO STAR WARS: REBUILD THE GALAXY Actor Calls Series ‘Dream Project’

Young actor Gaten Matarazzo has hopped from one science fiction world to another.
Best known for his role as Dustin on STRANGER THINGS, the now 22-year-old is thrilled about his new role in LEGO STAR WARS: REBUILD THE GALAXY.
“I’m a STAR WARS fiend, and so when I was approached, I was like, ‘I don’t care if the script is dog *expletive*; I’m doing it.’ And, of course, the script wasn’t that,” Matarazzo told The Hollywood Reporter. “So everything just fell into place to be a full-blown dream project that was basically a fan film. Lucasfilm let [showrunners] Dan [Hernandez] and Benji [Samit] get away with pretty much whatever they wanted, which was a miracle in and of itself.”
The four-part series sees “the entire STAR WARS galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact called the Cornerstone from a hidden Jedi temple.”
“He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the fate of all depends on Sig becoming the hero who can put all the pieces back together,” the synopsis continues.
Matarazzo was even more excited about the role when he learned that Mark Hamill, the original Luke Skywalker, would also be in the miniseries.
“To play one character for nearly half a century and be widely known for that one character, I can imagine it’s fulfilling, but very, very exhausting. So to have [Mark Hamill] come back and do this is really, really kind,” he said. “He elevates the show so much, and he also accentuates how brilliant the show is since people from the original trilogy wanted to be a part of it. We’re eternally grateful.”
LEGO STAR WARS: REBUILD THE GALAXY just released on Disney+ last month and earned a +1 content score from Movieguide®. Part of the review reads:
REBUILD THE GALAXY is a hilarious miniseries. It features top notch animation, fun characters and clever inversions of established STAR WARS characters. REBUILD THE GALAXY has a strong moral, redemptive worldview. It shines a spotlight on redeeming one’s brother from evil, helping others and forging one’s own destiny. The only drawback is that the miniseries bears an uncanny similarity to the theatrical movie THE LEGO MOVIE. Also, REBUILD THE GALAXY features over-the-top LEGO combat and slapstick. In addition, some characters perform occult space magic. Because of that, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
