CeCe Winans is warning people not to trust in “goosebumps” moments, but rather in how God is communicating with them.

“The more you know the Word, the more you know His character,” she said during an episode of TBN’s BETTER TOGETHER. “We’re living in a time where people just want to feel goosebumps, and they think that’s the voice of God. And it’s like, no — you get messed up just going on goosebumps.”

The gospel legend recalled a moment when she and her brother BeBe were getting ready to sign a contract.

“We’re sitting in the office, and BeBe’s like, ‘CeCe, come on, let’s sign the contract,’” she said, adding that she was unsure and in tears at the thought of signing the paperwork. However, she went through with the deal.

“And that was the worst five years that I had to walk through,” Winans said. “I learned in that moment, it was just like, that was the spirit of God, telling me, warning me, don’t ever be pressured to do something when you already know. And so, I really learned from that. I mean, it was a hard lesson, but I realized that that’s the way God was talking to me.”

Winans elaborated on the importance of having a strong relationship with God in an appearance on the JESUS CALLING podcast.

“The thing that works for me, and the thing that works for everybody, to me, is; you’ve got to keep your relationship with the Lord Jesus first. Because it’s out of that relationship that everything else flows,” she said

Winans added, “So my relationship with Him; He gives me the wisdom I need. He brings the right people into my life to help me in different areas. So, that’s my number one advice for everybody; what is your relationship with Him? A lot of times we’ll get so busy and we’ll put that last, but that needs to be first.”

In an interview with The Christian Post, she explained that your relationship with Christ should be “ongoing,” adding, “[It] keeps you focused, helps you not to grow weary in doing well, and to make sure that your life pleases Him.”

“There is no limit to what God can do,” she continued. “So go for it. Give everything you have and watch Him do what He does. Little becomes much. You never have to compare. For those who win awards, for those who don’t win — you’re still enough. And there’s a reward that we’re looking to receive that no one can take from you.”

Winans’ words are a reminder to always put God first.
