GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director Defends Chris Pratt After Cancel Culture Attacks His Faith

By Movieguide® Staff

Director James Gunn, best known for working alongside actor Chris Pratt in the first two GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movies, defended Pratt’s expression of his Christian faith.

In the past, fans have been quick to condemn Pratt’s role in the MCU, speculating that Pratt is bigoted and homophobic. The backlash came afresh when Pratt’s Peter Quill appeared in the trailer for THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER.

However, Gunn noted that people’s desire to replace Pratt is unfounded.

“For what?” Gunn asked a Twitter user. “Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him, that’s not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him.”

Pratt is open about his Christian faith but has never expressed his views on sexuality, leaving other fans questioning why people want him canceled.

“Wait, why?” a Twitter user asked. “I’m so lost. Everyone loved him a few years ago then you guys found out he went to church and that’s it?”

This is not Pratt’s first encounter with cancel culture.

When the Internet viciously attacked Chris Pratt over the last few days, dubbing him the “worst Chris” because of his conservative values and faith, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo refused to stay silent.

“What a world. . . The ‘sinless’ are casting stones at my brother, Chris Pratt. . . A real Christian who lives by principle, has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude,” Downey posted to Instagram.

Ruffalo tweeted, “You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life.”
