Harrison Ford Calls Super Bowl Jeep Ad ‘A Rumination on Life’

Hollywood icon Harrison Ford is reflecting on the meaning of personal freedom and responsibility in a new Super Bowl ad.

“It’s just a rumination on life,” the actor told PEOPLE of the two-minute Jeep commercial that premiered at this year’s Super Bowl. “It’s about having control and choice in your own life, and it’s about assuming the responsibility for your own life.”

In the commercial, Ford addresses the viewers: “Longest thing we ever do is live our lives. But life doesn’t come with an owner’s manual…Mighta been nice, huh? But that means we get to write our own stories.”

“I think [the ad] was inspired in the way that it was shot, the way that it was made,” the INDIANA JONES star said. “I was happy to be involved…It’s not the in-your-face big splash kind of Super Bowl commercial. It’s a soft sell…It came out to be something that I really feel comfortable with.”

Olivier Francois, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Stellantis, said, “Together with Harrison Ford and Oscar®-nominated director James Mangold, we worked very closely with each other to create an intimate film that would stand out through its quiet nature, very much opposite of what viewers have come to expect from Big Game commercials but very consistent with many of our past films for the event over the years.”

“The Jeep brand ethos is one steeped in freedom, adventure, and passion, born in America, but recognized and lived around the world,” he continued. “And as our 84-year history continues to unfold, we also want to remind our Jeep 4×4 vehicle owners that when they set out for the types of adventures for which our brand is singularly known to inspire, there will be a Jeep for everyone.”

Ford is currently hard at work promoting CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, where he plays newly elected President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross — and the Red Hulk.

The actor is already looking ahead to a future in the MCU, telling reporters at a press conference, “I hope [Ross] can come back. I hope [there’s] a story in which he can develop into something other than the Red Hulk.”

“I was very happy with the opportunity to play in this playground. What an amazing group of people to work with, and what an imaginative reality,” he continued. “So I was looking forward to having a piece of the action.”

Ford also paid tribute to the late William Hurt, who originally played the character in the MCU until his death in 2022.

“I’d like to think the character was a great fit for me. I was honored to be able to do my work on top of a foundation that a wonderful actor, Bill Hurt, provided for the character,” he said. “And the story is a wonderful extension of the stories that Thunderbolt Ross has been part of. I’ve watched Marvel movies and seen actors I really liked, really admired, have a great time. And I thought, ‘Hey, I want me some of that.’”
