High Point men’s basketball guard Chase Johnston declared that Jesus wants to define you by “His scars.”
“The enemy wants you to define yourself by your scars, but Jesus wants you to define yourself by His scars,” Johnston said on an episode of “The Walk” podcast. “I think it was by Joby Martin, he said that, and I was like, wow. Like every day, the enemy is trying to bring back scars in my life, the self-inflicted scars that I was living in before I knew Christ, and now that I’m washed in the scars of Jesus and the blood of Him, that’s my identity. I should be walking in confidence in that conviction.”
In 2024, Johnston shared part of his testimony in an Instagram post.

He wrote, “About 9 Months ago, I had a Radical Encounter with My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and He completely transformed my life through a conversation with my brother Kevin who was brutally honest with me about how I was living my life.”
Johnston was living his life in sin, and his brother told him, “Don’t run around wearing Christian bracelets and posting on your story when you’re living a life that’s leading you to hell.”
The athlete knew it was time to change.
“I fully surrendered my entire life to God and gave him absolutely everything,” the guard said. “For all the years of my life leading up to these 9 months, I thought I was following the Lord in the way I lived, but in reality, my actions showed that I was just a fan of God, who would just go through the motions. The Lord truly taught me in my encounter with Him that there is NO in between. You are either ALL IN or ALL OUT. (1 John 1:6)
“Jesus, you are my everything,” Johnston concluded.
Johnston’s post also included Galatians 2:20, which reads, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Johnston’s story is a reminder that faith isn’t about pretending to be perfect — it’s about surrendering to the One who is. He has truly let the scars of Jesus define who he is.
