Hilarious Matthew West Song Reminds Us We ‘Have Much to Be Thankful For’

Matthew West is making sure no one forgets about Thanksgiving with “Gobble Gobble,” a song to celebrate the often-overlooked holiday.
“There are so many songs about Christmas // The reindeer, the lights and the gifts,” West sings on the 2020 track. “We sing ‘chestnuts are roasting’ and ‘marshmallows toasting’ // And ‘here comes old jolly Saint Nick.’”
West adds, “You see, no one remembers a song for November // But that’s gonna change starting now.”
“Gobble Gobble” is full of funny lyrics that remind us about some of the best parts of Thanksgiving — “I’m going to eat a dozen dinner rolls” — and some of the parts we’d rather forget — “Grandpa’s passed out passing gas.”
At the time of the song’s release, West released a statement about “Gobble Gobble” and what he hopes listeners get from the silly single.
“We all know what a hard year 2020 has been,” the singer-songwriter said. “There hasn’t been much to laugh or smile about. Kinda feels like we’ve lived five years in one. So, I decided I needed to laugh. I wrote this song, not because I thought it would be my life’s defining work (I pray it’s not!) And not because I thought it could be a No. 1 hit (although it is pretty catchy!) I wrote it simply because it gave me and my family a much needed laugh.”
“I hope in its own weird way, ‘Gobble Gobble’ can put a smile on your face and remind you and your family that even in the heaviest of years we have much to be thankful for,” West continued. “Gobble, Gobble everyone.”
In an interview with The Baptist Paper, West shared that he enjoys using humor to make people smile and draw in listeners who might not have heard his Christian music.
“I’ve got kids coming to my shows now that actually found my real music by way of some of my goofy songs,” he explained. “So you just never you never know how God might use a different part of your gift in a unique way.”
