How Apple Plans to Integrate AI Into Software
By Movieguide® Contributor
Apple announced it is entering the AI space through “Apple Intelligence,” an update to its software that will introduce text and image generation as well as a smarter Siri.
“We’re thrilled to introduce a new chapter in Apple innovation. Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products – and what our products can do for our users,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them. This is AI as only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do.”
A key aspect of Apple Intelligence is its assistance with communication. The update promises a slew of handy tools such as an assistant that can proofread and automatically rewrite text, AI summaries that condense long pieces of writing or lengthy audio recordings, Smart Reply in the Mail app which automatically generates responses to received emails and context-aware notifications which will raise the visibility on a text or email it deems important.
Apple Intelligence also offers a variety of image-generation options. Users will be able to enter a prompt and receive AI-generated images in return in a variety of styles. They can also feed images into a portal that then generates new images based on those provided. Emoji lovers will be greeted with endless options as they will be able to generate new emojis by providing a simple description.
As for Siri, she will be able to understand user prompts better, while also being able to perform more functions both within and across apps.
Apple also announced a major deal with OpenAI, seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into its products and allowing for an even greater AI experience.
Apple Intelligence is set to release as a public beta this fall before rolling out as a part of iOS 18. The new features will be available to users with an iPhone 15 or later, or a M1 or later Mac or iPad.

ChatGPT users will notice a marked difference in the coming weeks as the service upgrades from version 3.5 to 4o, introducing several new capabilities.
GPT-4o is being marketed as the AI of science fiction as it can respond nearly instantly to a combination of audio, visual and text inputs.
“The new voice (and video) mode is the best computer interface I’ve ever used,” said OpenAI CEO and founder Sam Altman in a blog post. “It feels like AI from the movies; and it’s still a bit surprising to me that it’s real. Getting to human-level response times and expressiveness turns out to be a big change.”
“The original ChatGPT showed a hint of what was possible with language interfaces; this new thing feels viscerally different. It is fast, smart, fun, natural, and helpful,” he continued. “Talking to a computer has never felt really natural for me; now it does… I can really see an exciting future where we are able to use computers to do much more than ever before.”
