How Danica McKellar Finds Motivation: ‘Make Jesus Proud’

Actress Danica McKellar shared her tips for finding motivation in her life when laziness strikes.
“What helps you to do something that you don’t feel like doing?” she proposed. “What if you just feel lazy – and you know what, we all deal with laziness. It hits us all…What do we do in those cases?”
“Something like exercise, for example, if we exercise, then we feel good, then we feel more motivated to do other challenging things in life,” the actress explained in a recent video for Great American Community.
However, doing something like exercise requires motivation. McKellar suggests relatively easy habits you can form to boost your motivation.
“First of all, if you’re just not sure how to access motivation, are you getting enough rest?” she asked. “It not, get off your phone at night and go to bed… and I know that’s easier said than done, but really, just do an experiment and try doing that one or two nights and you’ll see.”
“Two, drink enough water,” she continued. “Hydration is everything for how we feel, and people don’t realize that…If you drink enough water, your body actually feels a lot better than it would have otherwise.”
“I drink a lot of water, and it really helps,” she added.
Beyond those healthy habits, McKellar also finds it helpful to find perspective on why she is doing something. It can be a lot easier to do the things you don’t want to do if you can find a motivating reason to do it.
“Ever since I found my faith this April, one of the things that help me so much – and it’s a simple thought – if you have Jesus in your life this will resonate… I want to make Jesus proud,” she said. “And I know this sounds corny. It makes me feel so good, I’m almost emotional about it, I don’t understand why.”
“I don’t feel like doing the dishes – you know what, this is going to make Jesus proud. And then I do them. It’s a really amazing thing that I have found,” she continued.
McKellar previously opened up about how she maintains a healthy lifestyle.
“I don’t have any secret tips for how to stay young. It’s a lot of things,” the WONDER YEARS actress explained. “I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t drink coffee. I stay away from unhealthy food. I don’t eat sugar or gluten, not that gluten’s necessarily unhealthy, I stay away from dairy. I just keep it as clean and simple as possible. I do eat meat, but very clean cuts of meat, no bacon.”
Movieguide® reported, “If there’s any secret I’ve found to youth, it’s in the attitude…and a healthy, clean lifestyle, of course,” McKellar wrote in an Instagram post. “Our minds and bodies are inextricably connected. I’ve found when I eat well and get enough rest and exercise, I have so much more access to that inner joy that makes life fun!”

Great American Family star Danica McKellar recently shared a video about how viewers can change their mindset from “have to” to “get to.”
“I highly recommend a handwritten to-do list,” she said in a recent video from Great American Community. “At least, for me, it really helps. I get overwhelmed with all of the things I’m attempting to accomplish in this lifetime [so] I really find it useful.”
McKellar added that she loves “physically” checking things off her lists and, even though she can make a to-do list on her computer, she prefers paper — “It feels so much better to handwrite a to-do list!”
The actress then shared a way she’s changed how she views the tasks in her life — instead of drawing up a to-do list, she calls it a get-to-do list.
“[It’s] so corny, but you know what?” McKellar laughed. “It made me smile.”
