How GREEN AND GOLD Star Hopes Movie Creates ‘Sense of Community’

By Movieguide® Contributor

GREEN AND GOLD star Madison Lawlor spotlighted the movie’s theme of community and shared her hopes that it starts a movement of kindness.

“I think it’s really nice to be part of a film and part of a story that’s really heartfelt and that…is hopeful and sends a good message,” Lawlor told Movieguide®.

GREEN AND GOLD tells the story of Buck, a Wisconsin dairy farmer who is facing foreclosure and “wagers everything on a high-stakes Championship bet, while his granddaughter’s musical ambitions could be their ticket to a new beginning,” per a description of the movie.

The actress said she was “so grateful” that GREEN AND GOLD was shot in Door County, Wisconsin, sharing that filming on “real people’s farms” added “a layer of authenticity” to the movie.

“We were telling the people’s story who were letting us into their world, and it just made everything feel so much more authentic and real and it was amazing,” Lawlor explained. “I think there was something really special about the strong sense of community that I felt in Wisconsin, and the people that we met there were so generous and so kind and gracious to let us into their lives and show us what they do with enthusiasm.”

She continued, “There was this camaraderie that was created that was really wonderful and beautiful. I think I left the experience feeling really grateful and hopeful.”

Lawlor also shared her hopes for what GREEN AND GOLD’s audiences will take away from the movie.

“I wish often that we felt more of a sense of community in our day-to-day lives, and I think it’s really important to lift people up around you and help the people around you and let people help you,” she explained. “I think that’s such a core element to this film, and I think, you know, caring about your neighbor — it sounds simple, but I think that’s a huge part of the film, and I want people to just be kinder to each other.”

Brothers Anders and Davin Lindwall are the creative forces behind GREEN AND GOLD, serving as director and co-writer, and producer, respectively.

“We really wanted to give people a glimpse into not only the beauty of farming but also the hardship of it,” Anders said in an interview with WPR. “In addition, we wanted to show a rural community in the upper Midwest, something that we felt had been underrepresented in cinema.”
