How This Retired NBA Star Is Showing His Family His Childhood Dream

Former LA Clippers star Blake Griffin spends his retirement with his two kids, Ford (11) and Finley (8).

One way Griffin does that is through his love of Lobsterfest.

“I’ll make it a point to get them to Lobsterfest. That’s my dream because I want to see it through their eyes,” Griffin told PEOPLE.

The power forward decided to team up with Red Lobster for a new Lobsterfest commercial.

He explained how that was “a staple of my childhood growing up.”

“We had one that was two miles from my house growing up,” he added, “so it brings back a lot of good memories. Lobster, cheddar biscuits, all that, so when I had the opportunity to do this for a Red Lobster and Lobsterfest, I jumped at it just because there was just so much nostalgia.”

Griffin has done multiple commercials for Red Lobster. One included him in a basketball uniform.

“I need to get something off my exceptionally chiseled chest,” the former NBA star said in one commercial. “I’m sorry for dunking on so many people so many times. To make up for every dunk I’m inviting my dunk victims and lobsterfest lovers to come dunk with me. Come Dunk your face off at Red Lobster’s greatest Lobsterfest of all time.”

Another way Griffin spends his retirement is on the golf course.

“As I was getting into the end of my career, I was like, ‘Man, I need somewhat of an outlet, a competitive outlet,’ and a bunch of my friends were playing golf, so I gave it a try,” Griffin recalled. “I’ve gotten super into it, some people may even say obsessed.”

“Some guys have been playing since we played together, or some guys just picked it up like myself, but when guys come into town, I’ll take them out to play golf. It’s got its own little NBA and also former athlete community too, so it’s cool,” he added.

Griffin played in a celebrity golf tournament called The Match Superstars. The event was hosted by TNT and included stars like Ken Griffey Jr., Michael Phelps, Mark Wahlberg, Nate Gargatze, Charles Barkley, Bill Murray, and Wayne Gretzky.

“Well the vibes were high, but unfortunately, so were the scores,” Griffin said in a video shared on his social media.
