Senator James Lankford (R-Oklahoma) shared his fool-proof way of getting into the holiday spirit: helping others.

“There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit than giving back,” he shared. “While it’s easy to dwell on what divides us. [There] are some ways to serve friends and neighbors as we enter the holiday season.”

Sen. Lankford provided a few ideas for people who want to give back, but are unsure of where to start.

His first tip? Inviting people into your home.

“Celebrating with family is a blessing, but some people aren’t able to join their family this year,” he explained, suggesting that people “offer an extra plate at your table as a way to bless people who are alone.”

Sen. Lankford also told people that now is a great time to donate food to their local food banks and food pantries.

Another suggestion from the senator was to offer to do some food shopping for friends or neighbors who might not be able to drive or get to the store on their own.

Lasty, Sen. Lankford reminded people that a great place to start when looking for ways to give back is your local church.

The senator frequently shares messages before Thanksgiving, reminding people to reflect on their blessings.

In a 2020 video, Sen. Lankford said, “Thanksgiving couldn’t come at a better moment for us to be able to pause and to say ‘There’s a whole lot we can be grateful for!’”

“I’m exceptionally grateful for my family,” he listed. “I’m exceptionally grateful for my neighbors. [I’m] supre grateful for my church and my church family and the encouragement that I have when I’m able to pray.”

Sen. Lankford concluded, “We have a lot to be grateful for. Let’s be grateful, and let’s have that attitude of gratitude this Thanksgiving.”
