INSIDE OUT 2 Breaks Another Record
By Movieguide® Contributor
INSIDE OUT 2 just hit another major milestone.
The family-friendly movie has officially become the highest-grossing movie in Pixar’s history.
After grossing $1.25 billion globally, INSIDE OUT 2 surpassed the previous highest Pixar earner, INCREDIBLES 2, which took home $1.24 billion in 2018.
“INSIDE OUT 2 now ranks as the fourth highest-grossing animated movie of all-time, behind FROZEN ($1.29 billion), THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE ($1.36 billion) and FROZEN II ($1.45 billion),” Variety reported.
The sequel to 2015’s INSIDE OUT, the movie follows Riley, the main character from the first movie, as she embarks into her teenage years.
“She longs to join the champion varsity girls high school hockey team. However, new, unruly teenage emotions, led by Anxiety, has taken over the Control Room in Riley’s brain,” Movieguide®’s synopsis reads. “In fact, Anxiety has forcibly banished Joy and her friends from the Control Room. Can Joy and her friends find their way back and fix the damage Anxiety is inflicting on Riley?”
The movie came to theaters on June 14 and was the first film to gross $1 billion in 2024. That comes as no surprise, thanks to its “Strong Christian moral worldview about ‘the joy of the Lord is your strength,'” per Movieguide®. Part of the review reads:
INSIDE OUT 2 is a marvelous, family-friendly animated movie. The movie is delightful, funny, inventive, and heartwarming. It has many positive messages. For example, it promotes “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10c) and doing the right thing, controlling your emotions and not letting anxieties overcome your decision making. INSIDE OUT 2 also promotes kindness, friendship, repentance, and forgiveness. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for scenes of peril and a large scary-looking but nonthreatening character. Unlike other recent animated movies, INSIDE OUT 2 doesn’t have any woke or politically correct content.
It was rated by Movieguide as a +2 for content.
The voice cast includes Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Phyllis Smith, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar and Yvette Nicole Brown.
“INSIDE OUT 2’s success is definitive proof that Movieguide®’s advocacy work impacts Disney,” said Movieguide® CEO Robby Baehr. “This is the first movie Pixar has released in years that doesn’t flaunt an immoral agenda. Instead, because of our Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, Disney and Pixar chose to cater to families and focus on positive, uplifting messages, and it’s already paying out dividends.”
Movieguide® previously reported on INSIDE OUT 2:
Disney Pixar’s INSIDE OUT 2 is breaking records with $1 billion at the global box office on its 19th day of release — a feat never before accomplished by any animated movie.
“INSIDE OUT 2 stayed atop the box office chart in its third weekend with a domestic tally of $57.4 million for a North American total of $469.3 million. Overseas, it grossed another $108 million for a foreign tally of $545.5 million and global cume of $1.015 billion,” The Hollywood Reporter said June 30.
“The Pixar film is the first movie since BARBIE almost a year ago to join the elite club making more than $1 billion at the global box office. Among animated movies, it’s the 11th film to achieve the milestone,” The Hollywood Reporter continued. “Disney dominates the list, laying claim to eight of those releases, whether Pixar or Walt Disney Animation titles.”
The movie broke records in numerous countries, as well. It’s the highest-grossing movie of all time in Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey and is in the top 10 highest-grossing animated movies for Latin America, among other accomplishments.
