Jack Wagner teased a “life-changing” event in Season 13 of WHEN CALLS THE HEART.
“There’s going to be an event that happens, and I’ll just tease you a little bit, that’s going to be life-changing for everyone, and it’s reminiscent of what’s happened in L.A. recently,” he told TV Insider. “So that’s going to be the disaster and obstacle that we face this year as a community in Hope Valley, and it starts rather quickly.”
Wagner continued, “I don’t think we’ve had one of those for a while where the entire community was threatened, but that looks like the story we’re going to tell and the obstacle we’re going to face this year.”
The actor also teased that the show has “got to get Nathan and Elizabeth back, because they leave at the end of Season 12.”
“They come back in the first episode, and it’s about their return and what life looks like for Little Jack, now being [insulin] dependent, and how that’s going to evolve into town. How are we going to upgrade the medical situation, etc.?” Wagner said.
He also spoke about the enduring popularity of WHEN CALLS THE HEART, explaining, “I just think it’s fantastic because with the temperature in our country for the last almost 10 years, politically, etc., and all of the conflicts around the world, it’s so great that there’s this little pioneer town that people can embrace and find hope and a message of heartwarming joy and romance and community.”
“Not to sound corny, but how do we support and love one another, as opposed to constantly want to tear each other apart?” Wagner continued. “I think this show offers that. When people watch the show, they’re touched. That’s how I would sum it up. It touches them, and that’s why they become ‘Hearties.’”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wagner also let slip that LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE’s Melissa Gilbert will be returning in Season 13.
“They have a backstory and a history, and I kissed her in the final episode last year. So that sprung a whole well of romance for my character,” he shared.
Gilbert also confirmed her return during an appearance on the “Hey Dude…The 90s Called” podcast.
“When I go to Vancouver to the set and I walk in and it’s this old town, I feel like, there I am,” Gilbert said, referring to her early acting days on LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. “It’s a strange and wonderful feeling, and I’m very excited to go back. I’ll be back and forth to Vancouver a bit more I think this year.”
Hearties will have to wait until next year to see all the drama Season 13 of WHEN CALLS THE HEART has in store!
