HGTV Star Gets Emotional Over Son’s First Day of School. Here’s Her Prayer

FIXER TO FABULOUS’ Jenny Marrs has a message for parents who are feeling a little emotional as they send their kids back to school this fall.

“When you’re watching season six and notice my puffy eyes at a reveal, you’ll know that was the day I dropped my baby off for his first day of kindergarten,” she wrote under a slideshow of pictures of her son Luke.

Marrs continued, “The fact that I have a tangible reminder of how fast time flies as his sisters start their first day of middle school and junior high and big brothers are off for their first day of high school just sent me over the edge.”

“Mommas, if you’re heart is a little overwhelmed as we turn the page of a new school year, I wanted to share an excerpt from one of my favorite liturgies for ‘Dropping Off a Child at School’ from @everymomentholy…” she wrote, sharing verses from the liturgy.

“Creator God, who parents us all, hold my heart as I practice letting go, hold this child as a school day begins,” the verses read. “When they feel anxious or insecure, remind them they are loved. When they feel pressure to impress and prove their worth to peers, remind them they are already loved. When they make mistakes, great and small, and feel the sting of shame, remind them that no matter what, they are fiercely and completely loved.”

The verses continue, “In this passing moment full of backpacks, buses, and bells, I pause and acknowledge your goodness, shown in and through this unique child and the person they are becoming. May they open their heart wider to you today, allowing your hope to shimmer through them, even as they rest in the truth of who they already are: a beloved child of God, woven and held together by your gentle and mighty hands. Amen.”

Marrs has previously spoken about how bittersweet it can be to drop your children off at school.

In a 2022 Instagram post about Luke’s first day of preschool, she wrote, “I’ve done this four times before. But, this time, I know it’s my last first-time walking through the preschool doors with my baby at my side. And I know that once we step through the doors, he will learn to spread his wings and find his footing in his own little world apart from me.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Marrs’ prayer for her older sons as they get ready to start high school:

As HGTV star Jenny Marrs’ oldest sons prepare for high school, she shares a letter she wrote after their kindergarten graduation, praying over the next twelve years of their schooling.

“Yesterday, I registered my first babies for high school and my last baby for kindergarten ?,” Marrs wrote. “In my nostalgic state, I found a letter I had written to my way-too-soon-to-be-high schoolers the day after they graduated kindergarten. The words still ring true and make my momma heart want to cling to every single moment the next four and a half years have in store. I know they’ll fly by in a blink.”

Marrs and her husband Dave share Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte and Luke.

Marrs shared a fragment of the letter in which she encouraged herself to savor the time with her boys while they were still little and prayed that they grow to become Godly men…

“I want you to trust that you are here at this time, in this place, a part of this generation for a very important purpose…” she added, saying, “My prayer for the next twelve years is for this to be a time where you can learn and stretch and grow and feel safe enough to make mistakes. I want you to know you have a safety net behind you; encouraging you, loving you, helping you back up when you get knocked down.”
