Influencers Jessi and Alessio Pasini’s baby Lorenzo is in NICU facing some “rough nights” but overall is great,” the parents said in an update.

“Lorenzo right now is doing great,” Alessio said. “Okay, so we are in the NICU. You know, every parent is in the NICU; it’s a rollercoaster there.”

“So I can tell you, Lorenzo is good, and then tonight, maybe have a rough night. And so that’s why there’s not too many updates about him, because you never know what can happen. But right now, overall is great,” he added.

At the time of the post, their son, born at just 26 weeks, was 2.5 lbs., and the next milestone for the newborn is when he reaches 1.5 kilos (about 3.3 lbs.)

“One kilo and a half is going to be other challenge for him, and then we’re going to explain later what he needs to do. But Lorenzo is great but keep praying for this week. This is [an] important week.”

The Pasinis, known for their lighthearted travel, food and culture videos (including when it is acceptable to break spaghetti noodles and videos of Alessio, who’s Italian, triggered by his American wife adding ice to wine (“Cosa fai, Amore?!”) and squirting ketchup on pasta), shared their IVF journey through social media.

The new mom suffers from endometriosis, a condition that can lead to infertility, and shared that in 2024 she had her right fallopian tube removed and surgery to fix her uterine wall that was adhering to the bowels.

“Hearing our baby’s heartbeat after TTC [trying to conceive] for 6 years. After a loss, two years of IVF, 4 egg retrievals, all the meds, 4 surgeries for endo. It feels better than we ever imagined,” Jessi posted with a video of her at an ultrasound visit.

The couple shared how their fertility journey inspired their son’s name — Lorenzo Leone.

“We started our IVF in Venice. The symbol of the city is the lion [Leone in Italian] When we would go to do IVF, we would always find lions like Cafe Leone very close by,” Jessi explained. “Or we would have a Kinder Surprise, and a little lion would be inside. [In our] pocket coffee we would see a message like, ‘Today, you are a lion.’ So we decided that all throughout our IVF journey, our little baby that would come from that would be our little lion.”

“Lorenzo” comes from the night of San Lorenzo, Aug. 10, which falls on Alessio’s birthday, where Italians look to the skies in hopes to make a wish on a shooting star, or stella cadente, but the Pasinis also saw the sign of the shooting star as a sign of  “a gift of God for our situation,” as Alessio explained.

“It also refers to a city close to Rome, which was famous for its Laurel trees, and they would always make crowns of Laurel for victors, warriors, people who achieved great success,” Jessi went on to say. “So Lorenzo also has to do with a hard-fought victory. And Lorenzo is a hard-fought victory, and he’s fighting still, and at the end of all of this, he will have the greatest victory ever.”

Please pray that Lorenzo and family that he will indeed have a great victory as he continues to grow strong and healthy.
