JESUS REVOLUTION Inspires Spontaneous Baptisms Around the Country

By Movieguide® Contributor

JESUS REVOLUTION isn’t just enjoying box office success—it’s sparking revival and inspiring viewers to get baptized.

Director Jon Erwin marveled at the movie’s $30 million box office take, saying that the success of JESUS REVOLUTION “continues to blow my mind.”

Erwin had wanted to make this movie since 2015, but other projects and the COVID-19 pandemic prevented production.

“I started really studying this last revival in America and I felt gripped, like, ‘Why can’t my generation experience something like this?’” he told CBN’s Faithwire. “The late ’60s was just a very similar time [to today] of despair — cultural despair — and division. And then that’s when God really broke through.”

“It was just an amazing symphony of timing,” he said, reflecting on how the Asbury revival coincided with the release of JESUS REVOLUTION.

Since its release, Erwin has seen the real-world impact the movie is having on audiences.

“I’ve seen posts of people getting baptized in fountains outside the theater or in a lake the next day,” he shared. “Or a spontaneous praise and worship service starting in the theater, and then prayer happening in the theater long after the movie wrapped.”

The director even felt that impact during filming as well.

“We felt it on set when we were doing the baptisms,” Erwin explained. “I’ve never felt that kind of spiritual power on a day of filming ever in my life, and I think it bleeds through the screen. I think you feel it in the movie.”

JESUS REVOLUTION is one of the highest-performing movies at the box office right now. Movieguide® previously reported:

With a $15.5 million box debut, JESUS REVOLUTION shows that Christians will turn out in droves for a movie that honors faith and family values.

The movie, which stars Jonathan Roumie as Lonnie Frisbee, Kelsey Grammer as Pastor Chuck Smith, and Joel Courtney as a young Greg Laurie, opened to $15.5M at the box office—making it the third most profitable movie for Feb. 24-26.

Meanwhile, secular critics proved just how out of touch they are with what audiences really want.

Movieguide®, however, knows that content that promotes strong biblical values scores at the box office, as evidenced by this impressive opening weekend. Christians will show up and purchase tickets for their entire family when they can be assured that a movie contains little to no excessive content and will honor the values they preach in their own homes.

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

JESUS REVOLUTION is incredibly well made and captivating. It has many scenes with jeopardy and inspiring, well-written presentations of Jesus’ Gospel. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution because the movie accurately depicts the drug scene from an impartial viewpoint that might attract younger children. The movie also shows Greg Laurie’s mother’s constant drunkenness and philandering. The immoral behavior is part of the true stories in JESUS REVOLUTION, which, to an amazing degree, have been made into an exciting, cohesive, uplifting movie.
