Joyce Meyer, Sadie Robertson Huff Talk Discovering God’s Will for Your Life
By Movieguide® Contributor
Joyce Meyer met with Sadie Robertson Huff to discuss what committing yourself to God’s will for your life looks like.
Meyer has been in ministry for over 40 years, speaking at countless conferences across the world. However, when she first felt called to ministry, she was in no way prepared to lead this incredible life. Rather than immediately starting speaking engagements, she spent the next ten years preparing herself for the ministry she would eventually run.
“I had this big dream because God put it in my heart, but it wasn’t for that time. I think that can be very confusing for a lot of people. It’s like when God puts something in your heart, you always think it’s going to be now, but it rarely ever is,” Meyer said.
“Like, King David was anointed to be king, but it was 20 years before he wore the crown, and so during those 20 years, he had a lot of problems; he had Saul chasing him around trying to kill him, he was living in caves, he had all kinds of enemies, but all of those things prepared him. [He’s] no different than Joseph. He had a dream, but before he got to the dream, he went to prison for 13 years for something he didn’t do,” she explained.
“You really have to go through some things to get experience for what you’re just going to tell people. It’s hard to tell people to ‘stay in God’s peace when you have problems’ if you’ve never learned how to stay in God’s peace yourself,” she added.
Meyer also believes that many people mistakenly believe that because God calls you to do something, it will be easy. While He will support you and open doors, it still takes work to follow His plan faithfully.
“I think when people get called to do something, some of the things they don’t remembers is it’s probably going to be a lot harder than you think. It is going to take a lot longer than you though. And it may require more sacrifices than you ever think you can make,” Meyer said. “But God will never ask you to do something without giving you the grace and the ability and the power of the Holy Spirit to do it.”
It is also important to realize that God doesn’t always reveal His will for us by dropping an idea into our heads. Though He will reveal it to those who are seeking it, the process of discernment sometimes looks like taking a step of faith and trying out new things.
“I feel like it is important for young people to know I don’t think you have to try to find God’s will for your life. I think if you want God’s will for your life, He’ll guide you into it,” Meyer said. “I always say, ‘step out and find out.’ Sometimes finding out what God’s will is for your life is like a woman going out to buy a new outfit. You try on different things until you find something that fits and is comfortable.”
“I think a lot of people are so afraid of making a mistake, they’re so afraid of being wrong, that they just sit back and wait for some big word from God about what they’re supposed to do,” she continued. “But most of the time, the way you learn how to hear from God is by making some mistakes.”
“It’s okay. You’re not a failure because you fail at something, so I would really like to see young people just kind of chill about finding God’s will for their life,” Meyer added, “and just tell God, ‘I want to do what you want me to do and if you lead me and guide me and show me what it is, yeah I’ll do it.’”
Huff previously shared how she thinks about following God’s will—it’s like a game of connect the dots.
“…life is a giant game of connect the dots,” she wrote. “I realized that God has laid out a picture with a purpose and a path to my destiny and He is allowing me to choose to step into it and walk away from it.”

Sadie Robertson Huff is encouraging fans to embrace the hard work that comes from trying to make lifestyle changes.
“I want to share this bc I want to show that some things take time and hard work,” Huff captioned a mirror selfie of herself in workout clothes. “Actually, most things do if you want to see significant impact!”
Huff then opened up about her physical routine since welcoming daughter Honey James last year. Often, mothers face a pressure to “bounce back” after they have their children and return to their pre-baby bodies.
“We have a culture where we get to see the outcome of things, but rarely the process,” Huff wrote. “It can make it seem like everything is just supposed to happen to you when you look around at peoples Insta pages. And if it doesn’t come naturally to you, it can make you feel like something is wrong with you.
