Justin Bieber Puts ‘Hope In God’ As He Battles Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

Last week pop star Justin Bieber took to Instagram to ask for prayers for recovery from a rare disease called Ramsay Hunt syndrome that can cause facial paralysis.
“I hope you guys understand. I’ll just be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100% so I can do what I was born to do, ” Bieber told fans after canceling upcoming shows for his Justice World Tour.
On his Instagram post Bieber showed how the syndrome paralyzed the right side of his face affecting his eye, nostril and mouth.
“This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case. But my body’s telling me I gotta slow down, ” the singer said.
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a rare disease that is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox and shingles. Symptoms include severe rashes and paralysis in one side of the face.
Although in some rare cases patients can suffer permanent hearing loss and facial paralysis, the majority of people recover and Bieber is confident that he heal.
“[W]e don’t know how much time it’s gonna be, but it’s gonna be okay. I have hope,” Bieber told
his fans.
Bieber said that he is trusting in God and his timing for his healing.
“And I trust God and I trust this is all for a reason,” Bieber said.
In an update on June 14, Bieber said, “Wanted to share a little bit of how I’ve been feelin. Each day has gotten better and through all of the discomfort I have found comfort in the one who designed me and knows me.”
This is not the first time the singer has dealt with health setbacks. Soon after he and his wife Hailey Baldwin were married in 2018, he was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Hailey shared the challenge of dealing with a health crisis at the beginning of their life together as Movieguide® previously reported:
He was really sick. He has Lyme disease, and he was dealing with a bunch of medical stuff. We didn’t have a diagnosis. And it was hard because everybody from the outside was being super mean and judgmental, saying he looked like he was on drugs, saying how unhealthy he looked, when in truth, he was not healthy and we didn’t know why.
Hailey recently had a health scare of her own back in March when she was hospitalized for a ministroke. Throughout their obstacles the couple has been vocal about their faith and the strength it brings to their marriage.
“It’s the most important part of our relationship, following Jesus together, being a part of the church community together. It’s everything,” Hailey said.
