Kat Von D on Living in Gratitude: ‘I Praise God’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former tattoo artist Kat Von D spoke on comedian Theo Von’s podcast “This Past Weekend” to discuss how her life has changed after returning to her Christian faith and being baptized.
She also opened up about attending a small church, homeschooling her son, living in gratitude and finding her way back to Christ.
“It’s such an intimate and personal thing,” she said. “My relationship with God is my own and…I’ve never really felt like I belonged anywhere.” She revealed that she and her family currently live in a parsonage while their 1847 mansion is under renovation after moving from Los Angeles to Vevay, Indiana.
She shared that she’s a member of Switzerland Baptist Church and loves her small community where people are missed when they are absent. “I genuinely miss my church family when I’m in LA,” she added, “I’ve never really had that before.”
Von D also said that California’s government restrictions partly inspired her family’s relocation and decision to homeschool her son, Leafar Von D Reyes. “Indiana is very supportive to homeschool families,” she said. “The less government, the better.”
The former tattoo artist reflected on her decades of tattooing, noting she heard “the worst and saddest stories,” mostly when doing portraits of deceased loved ones. Yet, she continues to focus on gratitude.
“The last few years for me have been so rough, behind the curtains,” she said. “I don’t share [it] all…But I’m still going to live in a state of gratitude. The world could be falling apart, and I’m still, like, I praise God.”
Von D posted an inspiring video of her baptism on Instagram in October 2023.
Movieguide® previously reported on the “overwhelmingly beautiful” response Von D received after getting baptized:
“I really haven’t talked about it or posted anything since I posted the baptism video,” Von D started. “It’s pretty much because I’ve been taking my time processing the experience and some of the response and just putting my thoughts together.”
The former tattoo artist explained that she doesn’t plan on “talking too much about this in the future,” adding, “I don’t really feel equipped to be the poster child for Christianity. I’m still learning.”
Von D did share the responses she has received from people after being baptized.
“It was an overwhelmingly beautiful amount of positivity and love,” she said. “People were just coming out of nowhere and wanting to give me a hug and congratulate me and welcome me to the family.”
Von D called her baptism “a public demonstration of where I stand with my faith” and said she was “basically letting people know I’m not ashamed” of her faith.
